PC locks at 85% in Chkdsk, won't boot
A friend's pc, when booted, goes into Chkdsk, then locks up at 85%. He tried going into Safe Mode, but it locks there too. Is there a way to dod a system restore from the command prompt. (If the computer let's him have a command prompt?Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks1 person needs an answerI do too

Routine questions to get started:What is your system make and model?What is your XP Version and Service Pack?Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc.Does the afflicted system have a working CD/DVD drive?Do you have a genuine bootable XP installation CD (this is not the same as any Recovery CDs that came with your system)?What do you see that you don't think you should be seeing?What do you not see that you think you should be seeing?When booting in Safe Mode, does the system hang or seem to get past things and then start to run chkdsk?When you boot into Safe Mode, what is the last thing you see on the screen?Does chkdsk want to try to run when you boot into Safe Mode?When you reboot and before chkdsk starts to run, are you given an option to press any key to abort the chkdsk?Was the issue preceded by a power interruption, aborted restart, or improper shutdown? (this includes plug pulling and power buttons)Fill in the blank: My system was working fine until: ____________________________________________.Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it.
