Has Stand By and Hibernate ever worked in the past and if yes, what do you think has changed? If you look in Start, Settings, Control Panel, Power Options, do you see a Hibernate tab and if you do, is the Enable Hibernation check box enabled?Whcen you click Start, Turn Off Computer... is the Stand By button greyed out and unclickable? If you Press the Shift key, does the Stand By button turn into a Hibernate button? When you get your system fixed you can add a separate Hibernate button to the Turn Off Computer... menu to save you the extra press the Shift key keystroke (I am all about efficiency)There are several things that could be used to wake a system from Stand By. What do you expect you would have to do to wake your system from Stand By? Do you press a key on the keyboard, click the mouse? How do you think it should work and what happens when you try it?If I see any Stand By and Hibernate issues, I always check to be sure the system is on Service Pack 3 and then check the video drivers. Please provide additional information about your system:What is your system make and model? What is your XP Version and Service Pack?Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc. Click Start, Run and in the box enter: msinfo32 Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information. This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork. Since you have NVIDIA, I would do this: Navigate to the NVIDIA website and let their online scanner take a look at your video system and see what it suggests for drivers and consider their analysis if they suggest a new driver. It is recommended to run the NVIDIA scan with Internet Explorer. Here is the address to the NVIDIA page:http://www.nvidia.com/Download/PreScan.aspx?lang=en-usRead the directions, then click the GRAPHICS DRIVERS button to start the scan. Do, or do not. There is no try.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!

Your information looks pretty good to me.Would you say your system works okay as long as you are not playing your game?Would you say that your system only has a problem when you are playing the game for a while? If your system only has a problem when you are playing your game, it sounds like your system might be overheating - this can happen when you are performing video intensive things like playing online video games, installed video games, watching videos, etc.Depending on your hardware, when the system overheats it will just shut the entire system off to protect itself, you will get no warning or error message, nothing will be written to the XP Event Viewer logs, no Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)... - the machine just shuts off and that's it... until things cool down. Then if you let it sit for anywhere from a few minutes to a little while, it will cool off enough to start working okay again - until it gets too hot again (aybe from playing your game). You can check and perhaps improve the ventilation of your system by reading this general purpose link that will tell you how to maintain your system for optimum efficiency.:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial118.htmlYou do not want your system to look like these examples:http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/11/13/ventblockers/print.htmlIf you think your system is overheating, your either need to get some more ventilation going (better or more cooling fans, etc.) or your hardware just may not be sufficient for the games you are playing. Most game manufacturers tell you what the minimum system hardware and software requirements are and you need to be sure your system meets or exceeds the minimum requirements. There is also some computers where the hardware is just not designed for the intense video games that people like to play these days. There are also computers that are specially designed just for games. You could just have a bad cooling fan or need to get a some better cooling fans that move more air for better circulation. Are you doing any overclocking with your system? If yes, that can cause things to overheat too and there are special overclockers help forums on the Internet to help with those kinds of things. There are some free programs you can download to monitor your temperatures, but I do not know what the good ones are, so maybe somebody else will post up some links to some things you can look at. Do, or do not. There is no try.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!

Hi Razzrawat, Does this only happen when playing games? There could be several causes for this issue; I would suggest you to try the following steps: Method 1: Disable security software\Firewall software and then test to see if the issue persists Important: Enable the security software back once everything is done.Method 2: Other user accounts may be corrupt, follow the steps mentioned in the article below to recover damaged or corrupt user profiles How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/555473 Method 3: To stop the computer from rebooting automatically, Disable automatic restart and check for any error messagesa) Right Click on computer > propertiesb) Click on the “Advanced tab”c) Locate the Startup and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.d) In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to automatically restart.e) Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window. f) Click OK in the System Properties window.
