try the flowing: in safe mode create new user with the same privileges as old one and delete the old one. re-boot the pc in normal mode and from start button go to run and run"msconfig". go to startup tab and disable all start-up items. refer to http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/quickly-remove-items-from-windows-xp-startup/ and that one http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560 . then go to tools tab and launch "system properties", in advanced tab select user profiles settings and delete any profile which is "unknown" or not used. select normal startup in general tab of the system configuration utility and re-boot the machine. that helped me hope it helps you too. presumed there is some corruption in the user profile resulting in the pc to freeze-upcheers
