Overnight all programs close
Running Win 7 Eval Build 7100 (64bit) on 3.0GHz Intel Dual Core, Asus P5Q3 motherboard, 4GHz RAM. In 2 instances I have left the computer on overnight with the following programs open: MATLAB 2008a, iTunes 8.0.2.23, Firefox 3.0.10, stickies, explorer, and CPUmonitor widget. The next morning all of my programs except stickies and CPU monitor are closed. I did not check the update manager the first time, but last night I had 13 updates (All 13 for MS Office) at 3:02am. Has anyone has this problem? Is Win7 doing forced reboots after updates? Can I turn that feature off so I don't lose results and data from MATLAB? Thank you for your help and suggestions. If more data is needed, I am glad to provide it.

Hello RavenousLlama,It sounds like Windows Update did a reboot during the night. The 13 updates you saw, were they installed in the morning? If during the initial install you chose recommended settings for update then it will download and perform updates and then warn a reboot will happen in 10 minutes by default. In the settings for Windows update choose Download updates but let me decide when to install, this should prevent unwanted reboots.

Thank you for your reply. I have changed the update settings and will see if the problem repeats or not. Much obliged for the assistance. Cheers, RL
