The mail icon in Internet Explorer? Will OE start if you use the Desktop shortcut, or in Start | All Programs? Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

The problem occurs no matter whether I click on the envelope on the tool bar or the desktop short cut, or the short cut on the start menu. The outlook screen appears as if it is loading and is replaced with the home page screen or whatever screen I try to
access it with. If I try again immediately sometimes it makes the connection. Other times it takes several attempts to connect. It is very frustrating.
I am running XP-Pro with IE 8.0.001.18702

Went there and tried everything but the registery fixes. nothing works. Looked into the pop3 log and it looks like i am not making a good connection. You can see from the entries below that the first 4 attempts stop at the Pass entry and on the 5th try it
made a connection. i have deleted my user id on these for security reasons.

It appears that Outlook Express isn't the problem, but rather the victim.
If you haven't done it already, delete Folders.dbx in the message store (with OE closed). Reboot and then try to open OE via Start | All Programs.
If still no joy, I would contact your ISP and have them check your modem's strength.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]
