Outlook and SQL Server connection Issues
Over the weekend I installed Windows 7 RC 64-bit and all looks good, except I can not connect from Outlook 2007 to Exchange 2007, and I can not connect to SQL Server. So I am guessing they have a similar cause and hopefully trivial solution. Since I don't know if it is a network, security or application ompatibility issue, I thought I would start here :-)Here is the abreviated setup. I have the workstation connected to a domain. The servers are all on the same network segment, so no physical firewalls etc. All installes went fine, it is just when I try to make a connection. As far as I can tell, all updates have been applied. With Outlook, the error occurs when running the wizard to setup the new account. When trying to check the name, it fails - unable to contact server. This is NOT an external HTTP based connection, but a normal native connection. With SQL Server, I have installed it locally and I can connect fine. If I try to connect to a remore SQL Server (2008) it fails to connect, using TCP & Named Pipes.I have enabled Windows firewall logging (and even disabled the firewall for a bit) and there are no denied messages. All worked from the same workstation with Vista-64 installed.Any ideas?-- David

David - Since both Office 2007 and SQL Server 2008 are the 'latest and greatest' versions, one would have to assume that those would NOT have any issues with compatability. You say you've got the Win 7 box on a network with a domain - but is it actually a member of the domain? I noticed that prior to actually making my Win 7 box a Domain member, I couldn't even see my server, let alone connect to it. I didn't spend too much time trying to connect to it otherwise - I simply made it a domain member and had no problems afterwards. Have you checked the Event Viewer for any entries that might suggest an authentication issue (or any other issue, for that matter)?

Yes, it is a member of the domain. I can also connect to shares on the exchange server box and the sql server box. I can also remote connect to them!-- David

David - Ok.. Kind of figured you probably didhave it joined to the domain. The user ID you're logging in with - I'm assuming has all the necessary rights to access the Exchange and SQL servers - there aren't any group policies in the way... Did anything pop up in the Event Viewer?
