Outlook Express will not work
Every time I try to apply for a job online, through craigslist, or whatever, I get dumped into Outlook Express. Every time I try to use this useless piece of crud I get the following error message: The host 'aol' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'aol', Server: 'aol', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D. Would somebody please tell me how to make this work so I can try & get a job, amongst other things, or, failing that, how to get around this problem from Microsoft.1 person needs an answerI do too

The problem is not caused by Microsoft but rather by you not understanding that your AOL email (web-based) won't work with mailto: links on webpages. When you click on a link on a webpage to send an email, it is a mailto: link which automatically opens your email client (such as Outlook Express) with the intended recipient's address populated in the "To" field. This doesn't work with web-based email like your AOL account.Instead of just clicking on the mailto: link you'll need to hover your cursor over the link and make a note of the email address. This usually shows up in the Status bar at the bottom of your browser. Then you'll need to go to your AOL email and write the email from there, putting in the recipient's email address which you wrote down.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Let me clarify: When I get dumped to Outlook Express I'm not using AOL, I'm using Mozilla Firefox to link into craigslist. Now, my basic question is: how do I get this piece of ____ outlook express to work like it's supposed to, or disable it so when I hit the link in the ad I'm trying to use I get something that bloody well works! I've also tried doing it in IE 8 with the same damned problem giving me the same damned error message.

You seem didn't entered invalid mail servernames or the incorrect ones. AOL uses a different port for SMTP which is 587 not 25 and also some Anti-virus block these port for security. But you need to check the correct settings are provided by your provider and then go to your account by clicking Tools >> Accounts >>your account>> Properties >> Server Tab and Advanced Tab , and make your changes. Here are some info it may be of help to you:Outlook Express Troubleshooting http://www.oeupdates.com/Outlook-Express-Troubleshooting.htmlhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistanetworking/thread/f6341258-b219-4a52-8132-8cf90bfcd0c7nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk
