My Outlook Express insists on compressing and backing up my email files. It does this a couple of times a week. A REAL PAIN!!!!It makes my machine inoperable for about ten minutes. Its compaction, not compression and its needed to help prevent message loss. Seewww.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 But if its happening a lot, then something is incrementing the counter to trigger the prompt. In most instances its Desktop Search doing it and you can go to Control Panel | Filtering options and disable OE and that should fix it.
