Outlook Express Error 0x800C0133
I have lost the emails in my Inbox a couple of times over the last few months and sometimes I get back emails from a year ago. have read about how to set up a new temp folder and move your emails into it. But what about all the emails in my email folders (hundreds of emails). What do I do with them. I am more concerned with losing them than the emails in my current Inbox. I am a computer novice and I don't know how to copy my email folders to a CD (can't copy to DVD's on my computer). Can all those folders be copied to the new temp folder??? I can send emails just can't receive them.2 people need an answerI do too

You need to learn to backup your messages. You need to adhere to the caveats at the end of this reply. Error Number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupt Inbox.Move any mail you wish to save to a local folder you create.Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the Inbox.dbx and rename it to Inboxold.dbx. A new, empty and fresh, Inbox will be created automatically when you open OE.Now you have messages you moved and also some that are missing. To possibly get the missing messages out of Inboxold.dbx you will need this tool.DBXpresshttp://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspxYou may need to run it in the Extract From Disk Mode if its normal recovery mode fails to find the lost messages.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * General precautions for Outlook Express:Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

Hi there - piggy-backing on this question, since a lot of people seem to have the same error I have.Re your reply: Move any mail you wish to save to a local folder you create.- Does this mean create a local folder in Outlook Express using the file-> newfolder, or create a new yellow folder in My documents and save it someplace I'll remember? I have read two different versions of this reply - are you saying that if I follow these present instructions, I will actually be saving my mail by calling it inboxold.dbx? Re: General precautions for Outlook Express:Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them.Does this mean "make my own folder in the outlook express local folders as I describe above?" [If so, I do that.]Empty Deleted Items folder daily.[Okay, I do that, too] With respect to learnng to save mail: We have several "identities" in Outlook Express on the same computer. Have way too many e-mail, some with large attachments. It's time to get them off the computer and I need to save them, not chuck them out. It'll take forever to move each mail message one at a time.I am not able to burn a CD. Do I have the option of saving to one of those little bitty removable drives, if so do I copy (or cut?) the .dbx files that you describe and paste them onto the little drive that I can push into the back of the computer, and how do I make sure I'm saving, not losing the email, and how do I retrieve it if I need it: is this complicated? Thanks for reading this. I realise it's probably boring and fundamental to you.Cordially yours,Sad and pathetic computer user

That can be done, but it is complicated. It would be better IMO, to save the messages as readable .eml files. These are instructions for saving messages to the Desktop, (or a folder anywhere), and continues to save to flash. If you are not very low on space, I would keep the messages on the Desktop or other Windows folder as flash drives are not 100% reliable. Create a folder on your Desktop, then in Outlook Express open the folder with the messages you want to save. Highlight one message, then Ctrl+A will highlight them all, (or hold the Ctrl button down while you select only the messages you want), Now, drag and drop them to the folder on your Desktop. Now you can copy that folder to a flash drive and you will be able to read the messages on the flash by double-clicking on them. You would right click on a folder and drag it to the flash drive and choose Copy Here. If all is well, then delete them from the Desktop. You may find that messages with the same subject get appended, probably with (1), (2), etc. One of these programs may be of use to you. Have a look and decide.DBXtract:http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspxOEX:http://www.oehelp.com/OEX/Default.aspx Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]
