Outlook Express 6 on start-up produces the error message: 'Address book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured.  Pleas uninstall and re-install
My operating system is Win XP SP3. While I get the above error message, I can open my Address book and send and receive emails normally. The only effect appears to be that my system seems to work at glacial speed and can quickly 'hang' if I've been using OE6. There are also difficulties exporting files to Windows LiveMail, allegedly caused by suspected corruption of files in OE6. I'm also using ZoneAlarm Extreme Security but this has not caused any problems before with OE6. I believe that uninstalling and re-installing OE6 is possible but very complicated, but unless I can successfully export the existing files and address book, I cannot reasonably use an alternative. Any help gratefully received but the following don't appear to be solutions to my problem:http://support.microsoft.com/kb=239135http://support.microsoft.com/kb=191946 1 person needs an answerI do too

What Bruce said; more specifically, is Office (and/or Outlook) 2003 also installed? Also please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your next reply (no need to quote this post):1. If you're using OE, why is Windows Live Mail (also) installed?2. Is the ZA application configured to scan incoming/outgoing mail?3. When (approx. date) did you install ZoneAlarm Extreme Security?4. What anti-virus application was installed before you installed ZoneAlarm Extreme Security and was your subscription still current?5. Has a(nother) Norton or a McAfee application ever been installed on the computer?6. Did a Norton or a McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)7. Is Automatic Updates enabled and is the computer currently fully-patched atWindows Update?~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (IE, Mail, Security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ Disclaimer: MS MVPs neither represent nor work for Microsoft

Outlook is installed from Office 2000 and has never been used. As for the other questions.1. I experienced problem described and one of the suggested remedies I found in another forum was to make sure that I had all applicable Microsoft updates for my system downloaded. Somewhere in that process I found that I had Windows LiveMail and thought that it may be a more up-to-date alternative to Outlook Express6. It was in the process of trying to export files to WLMail that Iensountered problems that are being blamed on corruptions in OE6.2. The ZA program is configured to scan incoming/outgoing mail.3. I have had ZA Extreme Security installed since March 2010 and this was a newly available upgrade from the previous subscription to ZA Security Suite. ZA ES was clean installed after some other problems thought to be related to the security software. The original versionwas deleted using ZA' 'cleaning tool' and a fresh installation effected. I hae been using ZA security products the entire life of this current computer.4. See above5. Neither Norton nor McAffee security products have ever been installed by me to the best of my knowledge. I cannot guarantee that they may have been installed used during the machine's time with a repairer6. No.7. Yes. Appreciate the assistance

I think we'll find that Outlook (2000) is the troublemaker here.1. Open Registry Editor via Start | Run | type or copy/paste REGEDIT | [ENTER]• Do you have this Registry key?... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4• If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook (NB: no space) and is its value set to 1 (one)?• If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office). Change the value to 0 (zero), close REGEDIT & reboot: Address Book should be available to you and all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and don't alter any other DWORD values.)Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is disabled.cf. http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm#share and/orhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/191946AND/OR...2. Open Address Book & click on TOOLS | OPTIONS: If "Share contacts with Outlook" is enabled/checked, disable/uncheck it.====================================TIP: If you don't use Outlook (or its Calendaring feature), Remove it from your install of Office 2000.TIP: If all is well (i.e., after disabling sharing Contacts with Outlook), all of your OE data (including Contacts) will be imported into Windows Live Mail "automagically" during the installation process AND Windows Live Mail will become your default Mail Client. You will find support for Windows Live Mail in these forums: http://windowslivehelp.com/solutions.aspx?productid=15~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (IE, Mail, Security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ Disclaimer: MS MVPs neither represent nor work for Microsoft
