Has this account ever worked? If yes, it is probably Norton. It has never been compatible with any Windows e-mail client.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your emailhttp://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmNote that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. You will probably need to do this.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA

I've had Norton 360 for years & never had any problems. I tried your suggestions before & after your suggestions with no change.I don't have other security programs.I noticed you say the same thing for most of your replies. Do you have any other suggestions ?

You would not believe how many issues with Outlook Express are solved by removing e-mail scanning.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA

You can go to File | Identities and setup a new Identity and add your account there and see if it works, but Norton will likely screw it up. I would back up what ever mail you have, as it may one day just vanish. steve <Denis J Racine> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...I've had Norton 360 for years & never had any problems.
