Outlook Ex 6.0 Reply function loses text (XPHomeSP3)
So, suddenly when I use the Reply function in Outlook Express (6.00.2900.5512) all of the text of the email that I'm replying to displays momentarily and then disapears - leaving only the header info - like who it was from/to/date/etc. I haven't done any upgrades lately, it "just happened." I did some security upgrades after the problem showed up hoping they 'might' fix the problem; no such luck. I had this problem a way long time ago, but I was at SP1 or so and when I got up to date it got fixed in the process. I'm reluctant to reinstall Outlook Express since its linked to reinstalling IE, too and I dread the losses of whatever favorites/data etc that I'll miss. (also not quite sure how to reinstall OutlookExpress. I compacted all the folders (many emails in many folders), but it didn't fix the problem, either) Any suggestions?1 person needs an answerI do too

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it.Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity. How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Expresshttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169An Outlook Express basic repair kithttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/oerepair.mspx#EHH Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA

Wellll, it might be a damaged identity or more. I tried building a new identity following the instructions. When I go to switch identities Outlook Express closes and I can't reopen it until I reboot the PC. I also stepped thru' most of the repair kit items, suddenly found myself opening what looked like a 'virgin' copy of OutlookExpress (no email, no folders, no accounts, no address book) Imported all that -perhaps worth noting that the instructions don't tell you how to import the address book- but I kind of knew how to do this and found it with a *.wab search-. Long story long, the reply problem is still there and when I try to switch identities OE still crashes. Also an interesting other problem where I sometimes can't move a message from my Inbox to another folder getting an error message. So am I doomed now to an OE and IE reinstall - if so- some pointers please!

So now you are using this virgin OE with your messages imported to it and still have the same problems? A new identity is 99% of what you would have if you do a repair/reinstall of OE and that is extremely difficult since it requires removal of all service packs and IE upgrades. A complete reinstallation of XP would be easier.I would check for Malware first.
