Outlook 2010 Presence indicator not shown

We are running Lync 2010 with Outlook 2010. The Presence indicators in Outlook work gererally OK, but not on some clients.

The "Display online status next to name" in the Outook Options is checked. It is not user related but computer related.

The stange thing is that the presence of "Frequent Contacts" in the "To-Do Bar" is working, but not in the mail items. Someone had this and solved it?

If you start outlook first then open Lync 2010, you will get this scene.

So let the users to restart outlook client but not lync client, the Presence indicators in outlook will work.

If it still can not work, please try to reinstall lync client and make sure the lync add-ins for outlook is checked in outlook client.

Hi Sean,

I have allready tried all these suggestions, but have no success with them.

One thing I forgot to add is that the problem is in Outlook only. In Word and Excel everything is fine.

I also tried with a new Outlook profile...

We are running Lync 2010 with Office 2010.

On some of the Outlook clients no presence indicator is shown, but reightclinck the mane of the contact correctly shows his/hers presence. In Word and Excel everuthing is working OK. Also, the presence indicators for "Frequent Contacts" in the "To-Do Bar" in Ootlook are working.

The "Display online status next to name" in the Outook Options is checked. Another user on the same PC does not have the problem, and the same user on anather PC deons't have the problem either.

Someone had this and solved it?

Hi Sewelia,

The error is usally an autodiscover and EWS (Exchange Web Service) issue.

If you right click and hold CTRL the Lync icon in your task bar,  and select Configuration Information, what is the status of EWS  Information and EWS internal URL?

Are those URL working?

Regards

What is your pc operating system, windows 7 or XP?

Do you try to reinstall Lync client and outlook? Maybe some components are not installed correctly.

The operating system is Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bits. And yes, both Lync and Office 2010 have been removed and the reinstalled again, but with the same result. No presence indicators :-(

Hi Jean-Phillipe

The EWS status is reported as "EWS status OK" and both internal and external EWS URLs are working as they should

Still having this problem. Am I the only one?

Just you have this problem in your enterprise?

If it still can not work after you reinstall outlook, I think perhaps there is some thing wrong with your OS to cause this problem. Please check it.

Hi

No I do not think it is the OS. It does actually happen on other PCs as well.

The problem is still not solved.

What is it in the OS that I should check?

Did you ever solve this?
October 23rd, 2012 8:08pm

No, I never solved it. Hoped that some Lync update would help, but unfortunately not. Status indicators are missing in Outlook and Sharepoint as well. The only way to solve it is to reinstall the OS.

I just found a fix that worked for me.

I had Skype installed first, then I installed Lync.  Apparently Skype was my default IM provider and didn't get updated when I installed Lync 2010.  The registry Key is HKCU\Software\IM Providers.  Under that are keys for the supported IM clients on your machine.  In my case they were Communicator (for Lync) and Skype.  Once I changed the String Value DefaultIMApp from Skype to Communicator everything was fine.

I have exactly the same problem as the OP and have tried all the options above.  Registry already had Communicator as default, EWS status and links are all good, tried opening Outlook before Lync etc.  I have a Core i5 machine with 4GB running  XP Pro SP3 (don't ask!) and other users on the same network with the same configuration have no issues... anyone have any more ideas?

As per maayanda's post here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/dfe74f28-6d16-4a19-9019-ea9e07877720/display-online-status-option-grayed-out?forum=ocspresenceim&prof=required

try this (swapping 12.0 to 14.0 if you've Office 2010):

To enable Display online status next to a person name :
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\common\PersonaMenu\Enabled=1

To enable display online status in the To and CC fields:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\IM\EnablePresence=1

Please try this solution that works for me..

1. Check any other messenger installed on your system like MSn or skype.

Go to registry option use following registry key and restart your outlook then it will surely work.

if improviders folder is missing in registry key copy this whole setting from windows reigstry to @="" and paste it to notepad and save as to ocsreg.reg and then run the registry key and restart outlook

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers]
"DefaultIMApp"="Communicator"
"OfficePresenceLogging"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers\Communicator]
"UpAndRunning"=dword:00000002
@=""
