My C: drive is 32GB large. It is reserved for Windows only, I install my programs on other drives. After Win7 fresh install I had 22GB of free space but now after a year I have less than 5GB available. I can't use an effective restoration with only 5GB available. I tried CCleaner but it barely removed a few 100s of MB. I want to remove all unnecessary files and I want to start with windows updates rollback backups, I have an insane amount of windows updates and I want to remove all the rollback backup files. I never rollback on any update, so these files are pretty much useless to me. So please, let me know how to remove these files. Also if you have any idea on other unnecessary files I could remove please let me know. Also I would like to point out that I often see unexplained variations in C: size. A moment I have 5GB available, a moment later I have 4.5 or 5.5 available. Don't know what's going on.

32GB is simply too small for Windows 7, however here are some pointers to free up some disk space: 1. If you don't use Hibernation you can save the equivalent in hard drive space as the amount of RAM that is installed by turning it off. In a Run window (Windows key+R), type powercfg.exe -h off (note the two spaces) and press Enter. To turn it back on type powercfg.exe -h on and press Enter. 2. Reduce the amount of space used by system restore by going to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > System > System Protection (in the left pane) > System Protection Tab > Configure and change the disk space allocation. Also, if you have a separate hard drive, more space can be released by moving the pagefile to it. 3. Delete any temporary files that may be left over from CD and DVD burning. Navigate to the hidden folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Temporary Burn Folder and delete all the files. 4. Remove any programs that are no longer used, via Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features. You may also want to turn some Windows features off (in the left pane). 5. Run Disk Cleanup. Access Disk Cleanup by going to Windows Orb (Start) > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. After selecting the drive, go to the More Options Tab where you have the option to remove all but the most recent restore point, which may include old backups. Be aware that by doing this you will lose all other restore points which may or may not be important to you. 6. Reduce the space used by the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Bin > Properties > Custom Size and amend as necessary. 7. Remove any other files that you may have overlooked in the past, e.g. old videos, also look in the Downloads folder for unwanted items.

Thank you for efforts but in all honesty nothing I didn't already know, sorry. I use hibernation regularly so I can't get rid of hybersys. And I already set the restoration capacity to the minimum (300MB). What I really need to know, again, is how to get rid of windows update rollback file. They are the reason why my windows went from 10gigs to 25gigs. Whenever I update, I loose over 500MB. Please good Sirs, answer to the question in OP.

My \SoftwareDistribution\Download has only empty folders my DataStore.EDB is only 180MB Since for every update pack I loose from 500MB to over 1GB sometimes, I doubt everything is stored in DataStore.EDB It would be nice if a Moderator/Developer told us how to remove these accursed 15 Gigs of windows update rollback which I will never use. My C: drive will soon run out of space and I tested the built in partition resized and it can't resize C: because it always resize D: in the wrong side and all I can enlarge is E: after resizing D: >_<

Do you do Hibernation on you computer? Recently my laptop went into hibernation because it was short on battery. Literately, I lost 7 gigs of hdd storage after that. I did some investigating and found out the a very large portion of my hdd was use up for a "temp" folder inside Windows folder (I'm running Windows7). I download and run ccleaner and was able to free 15 gigs by clean up that temp folder. Run ccleaner, analyse, and look for Windows temporary storage and clean it.
