Operating system version not properly recognized
I have an eMachines model T6520 computer which was sold as an XP Media Center 2005. I purchased it in July 2005.The Media Center application does work locally on the computer, butI cannot get a Lynksys WMCE54AG Media Center Extender to install.I have spent a lot of time with eMachines in trying to resolve the problem, also with the person I purchased the Extender from.It appears that ALL the Media Center required files to set up this wirelessextender are not available on the computer. The extender connects well to the router both wirelessly of by cable, butcannot be setup. The Media Center Extender Manager is non-existant onthe computer. In trying to fix this, I have tried to install the update KB-900325-USA, andgot a popup message "can only be run on Windows XP Media Center Edition2005. Media Center properties show it to be 2005 Edition.Trying to install XBOXMCE05LITE-enu, which I believe is Rollup 2, resultsin an "incorrect operating system" popup. The operating system shows up as version 2002 in system properties. This seems to be and enless circle. eMachines (Acer) offers no help; sincethe software was installed on the computer by eMachines, Microsoft won'thelp. If I understand this correctly, this is not an issue of something wearingout, but instead an issue of not being as advertised. If anyone can offer directions on how to really identify what the versionsof the Media Center and the Operating Systems are I would be thrilled! If this seems incoherent, you shoud experience it from my end.Thank,fishfanger1 person needs an answerI do too
