When I open software sometimes it opens out of the viewing area of the monitors, then I have to right click on the icon and select maximize to be able to view it, Sometimes I can see the edge of the program window

You can try this on Win 7 its resolves the issue: locate the \AppData\Local\ of your user account and delete the faulting application folder this should reset its preference.

Thankyou for your reply, I am using windows 8 but I will try deleting (well I will rename it just to be safe) the faulting applicaiton

A better choice would be Move and then Size (if necessary).  Alternatively, minimize all windows, e.g. press Win-M, restore the problem one, and then use the Taskbar Cascade Windows command.   (Cascade Windows only applies to non-minimized windows.)
