Opening/Vieweing actual email file
Hi, Though I've identifed the exact location where my emails are stored (below), and I am able to get into the directory and see them listed -- when I click on a file, I am simply bounced back to my Outlook Express window. How can I actually open the email file?C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{587AD3CC-EA88-4438-A5EB-6A6FA4427CCD}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Microsoft Access MVPHello Tom,1)Using WORD to "open with" files that I am able to get to, produces gibberish; Wordpad reads the files but the format is very difficult. Which applications would you recommend? In addition:2)I have many subfolders in my Outlook file, but none appear as such in my directory -- Do you know why?3)If there is a way to get to the subfolders in 2) above, can I get to a specific email, and 4)can I get to an email attachment? Thanks in advance for your help,EditorMA

Look at www.insideoe.com andwww.oehelp.com/backup.aspx to understand the organization of the message file system in OE. The dbx files contain the messages, but as you have seen, they are not readable by a text reader. OE has to reassemble them in order to display them in a readable form. Trying this manually is quite arduous. If you want to see the individual message source, you can do a CTRL-F3 while the message is opened and it will show you the complete message source including the encoded attachments. You can use one of my programs to extract the messages (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) as well as to extract the attachments and other features (www.oehelp.com/OEX/). steve "EditorMA" wrote in message news:80fa071c-09dd-4637-86d2-195eaa844a89...On Wed, 2 Jun 2010 15:11:03 +0000, EditorMA wrote: The reason this happens is because OE apparently is the registeredapplication for files with that extension.
