How much disk space do you have allocated for System Restore? If you have only partitioned around 20GB space for use with Windows 7, the default 15% reserved space, 3GB,would be just enough for a single restore point.

Thany you Darien. I have a separate 80Gb HDD for a test rig with Windows 7.I have to admit that I assumed that System Restore had allocated a maximum of say 10% of disk space like Windows XPand I had not checked. It seems that the disk space was set to 0% 0 bytes. I most definately hadnot changed a default setting to zero, so...???Now that I have actually allocated some space I will see what happens.Old Mig15 pilot.

When you apply the max usage setting, make sure it is for the disk you intend. When you select configure in the system protection window, it will allow setting of the protection for the first disk in the list which is not necessarily the system (C:) disk. The default, as far as I have seen is always 15%. The unselected disks will show 0%. I say this since if 0% was selected, no restore points would be saved.

System Restore is monitoring 2 HD's both set to Max [12%]. I am cautioned that "turning off system restore in the system drive [c:] will turn of system restore to all drives." I have checked that system restore is on.When I checked system restore in Windows 7 beta, I find that it is monitoring one drive only, it was set to 10% and no restore points were set. I have set a restore points twice before, but non remain after shutting down & restarting. I have increased the space for system restore to 50% to see if that has any effect. My apologies for the late answer; been away for the weekend.Old Mig15 pilot.

I just noticed that you are dual booting with XP, is that the case? If so, when XP can see the drive that either Vista or Windows 7 is on, it will remove all the Vista or Windows7 restore points. The only way to fix this is to hide the Vista/Windows 7 partition from XP. It is caused by the difference in how XP treats other partiitions when it comes to system restore.

When you say "hide" the drive; could you be a little more forthcomingon how to do this please..?? Old Mig15 pilot.
