Only IE7/Windows Core can connect
Hi,
I just upgraded to Windows Vista and am having severe problems with any application except Internet Explorer accessing an internet site.
In IE I can get onto any website as per usual. Windows Update is able to download it's things and all seems to work.
However, Firefox, Skype, mirc, AVG Free Updater appear to have no internet connectivity. There is one exception to this. I can get to google.com and associated sites.
So, for example:
Firefox: www.google.com -> workswww.wikipedia.org -> FAILSnews.bbc.co.uk -> FAILS
ie: www.google.com -> workswww.wikipedia.org -> worksnews.bbc.co.uk -> FAILS
Furthermore I can quite happily get onto FTP sites using FlashFXP, but not Skype, any site using Firefox, mirc etc.
I tried disabling Windows Firewall with no luck.
As it works in ie. I find this very strange and wonder if there is some legacy Winsock component that has not updated.
Please someone help!

It seems you have troubles with DNS, stored DNS records in your computer is the static or those ones you visited priodically, hence any new domain you try to access has no IP values in DNS records, so it fails to browe the web. Try to use command: ipconfig /flushdns to from command prompt "you must run command prompt as Administrator".
Good luck

Hi,Thanks for replying.The actual problem was an incompatibility with my Speedtouch 716WL router and it's firewall.The solution is to disable auto-tuning as follows:
Start Menu
type cmd
right click Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator
type: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
reboot
