Online meeting join for SBA users fails

Hi

We have two top tier sites in our topology. site1 has the global federation route within. site 2, has branch offices within, which has SBA's deployed.

Any user, on the SBA, trying to connect to an external Lync online meeting, fails. They connect to the meeting, the external presenter can see them join, but then it it times out and disconnects before audio and other elements are connected with the message. The conferencing service did not respond. Please wait and try again".

If I move the user to the top tier site2 pool, and connect to the same meeting, with the same user, it is fine.

Normal peer to peer IM/audio etc to the same federated company is successfull. It is only when joining the federated companys Lync Online meetings, when homed on an SBA that it fails.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

As you know , SBA doesn't have conferencing component within , user would contact associate central site for conference service. SBA device will redirect the conference request to central pool.

I am curious know about branch site network placement. Are they part of same central subnet ? All required ports are allowed between branch site users and central site FE pool ? Are you seeing any errors ?

Thanks

The issue is not with connecting to the internal conferencing server/role, but connecting to external Lync Online meetings, via federation.

Peer to Peer federation - IM/Audio/Screen share etc, is ok.

The topology in a bit more detail is.

Lync top level Site 1 in US - holds federation role

Lync top level Site 2 in UK - users on this pool can join external/federated lync online meetings ok

Lync Branch site of Site 2 in NL - users on this pool cannot join external/federated lync online meeting

Many thanks!

Can you test following ;

  1. Telnet SBA FQDN on port 5061 from US edge server , is it working ?
  2. Enable UCCP logging on client and check for any errors ?
  3. Enable wireshark/netmon tracing on client/US edge box and try to join federated conference. You should get some clue from the log.

I suspect , user from branch site unable to reach US edge server internal interface on some ports which may be causing the issue. You should be able to find more information from logs.

Thanks

Hi,there,

Agree with Saleesh, for ferderation access user will route to Edge then to the partner, seems there is some problem for branch office user connect to Edge internal interface with port 5061,please try to telnet each other on US edge and SBA FQDN on port 5061.Also please enable Lync server logging tool and user netmon to trace sip log and the network traffic to get more specific information for troubleshooting.

I can log into a Lync client at the NL branch site, as a user homed on the UK pool, and connect to external Online meetings OK. Log into the same laptop, as a user homed on that branch sites SBA pool. Cannot connect.

The same goes for logging into a Lync client which is located at UK site. I can log into the Lync client using a UK pool user, and connect fine. Log into the same laptop  as a SBA pool user, then is fails to connect to the meeting fully.

All sites are connected via MPLS, and all ports are open between every site.

Did you fix the problem?

I have exactly the same issue. Have an open inccident with Microsoft but no solution so far.

Users of main pool works fine. SBA pool user cannot join meeting. 5061 is open.

Any comment appreciated.
