Online gaming ..
When i play Battlefield 2 online and Day Of Defeat: Source, i notice my ping times rising and falling ??When using WinXp,i normally have a stable ping time at 7ms, but when using Win7 32bit, my ping times rise and fallwithin a range of7 up to about 30 ms ping. This causes a great deal of lag from time to time, as it usually causes a drop in framerate also, and sometimes even causes a complete "freeze" and then back to normal ping and framerate, wich slowly degrades again, causing ping times to rise and fall over again, tried to disable Kaspersky IE 8, with no effect.I am not sure if some buildt in feature in Win7 should be disabled while playing games, as everything runs like a dream, offline games have no problems whatsoever, smooth gameplay and no lag or freezes, this only occurs when playing online.

I have the same problem and no solution found. In winxp i connect to a server and have about 5-6ms. When i connect to the same server under win7 i get 35-40ms. The same applies to all servers, generally the ping will double or even triple under win7. This only seems to apply to gaming. Using the command prompt in winxp i get 2ms to sunet, using win7 i get the same. Pinging the gaming servers i get the same ping in command prompt. What is wrong and how do we fix it? This is going to sound silly but i have no reason to switch to win7 if the ping increases by this much.

I've noticed the same thing in World of Warcraft with double to triple the ping time. I made two different tweaks and it fixed the issue with ping times dropping from 180ish to 60ish (that's a very good score in WoW).The first change was to get the wifi Optimizer and run it. This tells Vista/7 to not continuously look around in the background for a stronger WiFi signal/AP. This behavior will cause lag spikes when it startsto look forstronger signal and fixing it should stabilize your ping times. Obviously this will only work if you are using a wifi connection. Since this is your gaming rig I'll assume that you probably aren't (but this might be useful for others), so the other tweak will probably help you more. Here's a link to the software: The second issue is that the networkign stack is prioritized for reducing the overall number of packets, but it adds latency to the connection. This worksreally well for downloading larger files faster, but not so great for maintaining a constant speedy contact with a server. You can fix this in the registry and tell it not to wait as long and this is what really did the trick for me.http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/Here's a link to a website that has the registry edits in a step-by-step fashion. (It works with XP to speed it up a bit too)http://lifeandcode.net/2009/05/reduce-game-network-latency-in-windows-7-or-vista/
