Here is Lync forum if your question is relevant to Lync then here is the right place,if you are talking about windows server 2008 r2 support Group Chat which is a server role of Lync then the answer is yes.You can look at this TechNet document http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412883.aspx  (the operating system requirements are available for All Lync server roles)

If you are talking about the Windows server 2008 R2 issue then you need post it to the Windows server forum http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver.
