Ongoing XP registry errors
My kids loaded a bunch of software this spring to do a video project for school on my seven-year-old XP machine. I removed it (hopefully all), but my performance is shot. I tried everything I could come up with to no avail. I have Webroots protection turned (all 13 items) and have gone through all the online performance fixes I can find--defrag, page file, cleaners, etc. I finally resorted to the registry cleaning tools--holding off for a couple of months having read that they are worthless--with decent success. However, nearly every day my system locks up in screensaver mode, or just slows way down while using. I rerun the registry cleaner and end up with errors; mostly user related, but many system ones. I scan for errors, fix, and get back to it. This is very unproductive and frustrating. Any suggestions for a permanent fix?1 person needs an answerI do too

usually, one can execute a system restore point to reinstate the computers settings and functionality before the installation of other software. but you may not have any that go back in spring. but you should double check your system restore feature. sometimes, you can see if the windows system files are still genuine by booting up into safe mode and see if the performance is better than windows normal mode. if so, then I would execute a clean boot. -- db`...><)))> --> sent via windows live mail."scottcycle" wrote in message news:e8093b59-4dfb-4c89-992b-9b4284a0d352...My kids loaded a bunch of software this spring to do a video project for school on my seven-year-old XP machine. Thanks for the reply. No restore point prior to November, so was not able to attempt. The safe mode seems to have made it more stable, but still locked up a couple of times. However, once restarted, things return to normal--no need to run the registry booster.I ran the "Clean Boot" tonight. So far appears to be working.

I am using the standard My Pictures screensaver, so no issues there.I don't understand the "my computer-properties-check now-do both" suggestion. I right click on my computer, open properties, but from there do not know what to do.

registry booster? perhaps, it is what is causing the instability. I think that keeping the registry tuned up is a good idea, not all registry utilities are reliable. in any case, be sure to tune up your system, i.e. check disk and defrag. the registry files will basically benefit by both of the above. -- db`...><)))> ."scottcycle" wrote in message news:5cbd2577-3315-43f9-b6de-b59dd1d22c9c...Thanks for the reply.
