One user account everything freezes when opened
I have done system restore and disc cleanup, but when I open our most-used log-in (since this morning), everything freezes, and the curser doesn't make any commands occur. I can't even use the START menu or ctl-alt-del to get anything to happen. I have to shut down using the manual button on computer, which I KNOW is bad for the computer.1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi, Are you able to access Safe Mode, if so you can see what issues the user account is having by looking in the Event Viewer. Also you should run a full malware scan while in Safe Mode

I am a Gardener, and don't know all that much about computers. Maybe it is stuck in safe mode?? How do I access that under a different user name? And how do I do a malware scan. We have Mcafee virus protection...

I have not accessed Safe Mode, but ran a Malware "quick scan" under another log in, and it came up with no infected files.

Hi, Within the other login navigate to 'Event Viewer' This can be done by right clicking your My Computer and select Manage. From the window that appears, select Event Viewer on the left hand menu. In here we need to have a look at the System logs, we need to see if we can find any relation to the user account freezing and crashing.

It is funny... while the messed-up "user" is warming up, before ALL the icons appear on the bottom right, I am able to do a task or two, like empty the recycling bin... But it then freezes, about when the skype icon SHOULD show it "connecting", it appears with an "X". After that, I cannot click on any desktop icon, and when the curser is in the blue at the bottom, I just have an hourglass. I do not let that go on and on...maybe I should?? I think I worry someone from a remote computer COULD be trying to download my private info, banking passwords etc so I don't know if it is safe to just let it go... I did see the system logs, and errors were listed, but of course I do not know what to do with them... T H A N K Y O U

I did this, and did see event like errors etc, but didn't know what to do about them... I WAS able to do a FEW trasks before it froze, like empty the recycling bin. just to SEE if it could do ANYTHING. As soon as SKYPE icon came below with an "X ", I couldn't do anything, and an hourglass appeared and that is tyhe way it continued. I am afraid of leaving that, as I wonder of someone is trying to download my banking passwords etc,,, don't know... THANKS for your help... I guess we need to pay the $$ to get help from Microsoft Tech Support?? Kathy and Mike

Hi, If I was having this issue I would also try: - Download Trojan Remover (Available at www.simplysup.com, its free an easy to use) and run it to see if there is any malware on your PC (I now you have run a malware scan but try this program) - Use a program like TCP Viewer to watch for any logins from external i.e. Internet - I very much doubt it but its worth looking at. - Create another user and try the user migration tool to move all data to the new user, see if the issue reoccur (Which I dont think they will)
