One or more activex controls could not be displayed because either
Hi. I don't know if this is the right forum for my problem. Anyway, I have a problem with my Windows Services. Each time when I launch Windows Services window, I get a warning: One or more activex controls could not be displayed because either: 1. your current security settings prohibit running activex controls on this page, or 2. you have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. as a result, the page may not display correctly. The warning pop-up opens only when I click on Extended tab. The problem has nothing to do with IE security, because I can open pages with ActiveX controls on them and so. I have installed Spybot spyware/malware removal tool. Then uninstalled it. I'm not sure if this is the cause of the problem. But I presume it is. So, may be someone was facing the same problem and knows the cause for it. Thanks.

I'm having the same issue. It started about an hour ago. I was in Services everything was working fine, I finished what I was doing and closed it out. Launched it again and am now getting the same activex warning you are, also only on the Extended tab. Edit:Same issue is occurring with gpedit.msc as well, also only on the Extended tab.

KB907343 doesn't solve the issue, I tried it yesterday. It doesn't, but it is very close to solution. You should delete 1 extra (parasite) zone from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\ with pseudo-graphic number, you'll see it before zone number 0. It seems this is a bug of Adobe flash player update, though I am not sure. P.S. By the way, this extra zone prevents desktop gadgets to be shown correctly. Like on the picture in first post here

I seem to have all the symptoms on my system, which is running Windows 7 enterprise 32 bit. My Desktop gadgets do not load and I get the below error when I open Services.msc. --------------------------- Web Browser --------------------------- One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. As a result, the page might not display correctly. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- But I do not see any parasite zone before zone 0 in the above mentioned registry. I have tried the mentioned KB as well and have registered some DLLs as mentioned at a few other sites. Any help is greatly appreciated. Chandra

Try to follow the KB article (KB907343). 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. 2. Expand the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0 3. In the right pane, right-click 1200, and then click Modify. 4. In the Value data box, type either 1 or 0 to overwrite the existing value of 3. Then, click OK. Note If you type 1 in the Value data box, you will receive the following prompt when you start Microsoft Project: Do you want to allow software such as ActiveX controls and plug-ins to run?Additionally, you will receive this prompt at other times when you use Microsoft Project. If you do not want to receive this prompt, type 0 in the Value data box. The values 0, 1, and 3 are associated with the following behavior: · 0 = Enabled, or the action is permitted · 1 = Prompt · 3 = Disabled, or the action is not permitted 5. Quit Registry Editor. IF this does not works try to check the Internet Options.. Try to reset the Internet Explorer. 1. Click on Start & run. 2. Type inetcpl.cpl & click ok 3. Click on Advance Tab & click on Reset (Make sure to put the check mark on the delete the personal setting for IE8) then again reset. 4. Click close. This should work.

hi! I have the same problem. I tried deleting the "L' zone but it just keeps appearing again after I delete it. Even after I delete it I still can't access the "services.msc" as I get the same message : One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. As a result, the page might not display correctly. Can anyone please help me ?

I am using the Windows 7 as well. Finally I managed to delete the "L" folder in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones" after I did a full system scan with "SUPERAntiSpyware" and "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware". Now I am able to enter the "Services.msc " but my Security Center won't start. That was my first problem I tried to solve when I got the message "The Windows Scurity Center can't be started" . Now it seems I got the Windows Services running but I can't seem to start the Security Center. I went in the Services.msc menu and started the Security Center, put the start up type "Automatic (delayed start)" but after a few seconds it is again stopped and disabled. Any suggestions please ? Thank you.

Ok. Instead of deleting the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\L" subfolder, right-click on the folder with your mouse and choose "Permissions..." From there, you need to check the "Deny" boxes for all users. Doing this should take care of the problem once and for all. I personally use my computer with Administrative privileges all the time, so I have no idea whether you need to change some settings as a non-administrative user in order to do this. Hope this works for you too!

Hi, I have kind of been having the same problem. I have been trying to turn on my windows security centre, for vista. However it will not allow me to turn it on, i can't even turn on windows defence. i scanned by computer for spyware with spybot, and i opened my windows services to reset the windows defense to automatic (delayed start) but it won't allow me, will only allow me to set it to automatic. so i set it to automatic but it won't allow me to start. it keeps saying, windows defender service was started on the local computer then stopped. some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programmes. please help me i have tried everything. thanks

January 25th, 2011 9:34am

I experienced this problem as part of a Malware program. A website downloaded and installed the following files: C:\Windows\Gtosya.exe C:\Temp\Grl.exe C:\Temp\Grj.exe C:\Temp\Grk.exe C:\Temp\Grm.exe It installed a startup program. Here’s the info from Autoruns: CE8SIIFGSU I windows setup API Avira GmbH c:\temp\grl.exe And it created a registry key: [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21……… (key will vary)......\Software\CE8SIIFGSU] It also added three of the above programs as “Tasks” in Windows Task Scheduler. That is why the “fixes” that people made always get re-broken and why those programs can’t be killed. I then found that Task Scheduler doesn’t load either so you can’t delete the tasks and you may not be able to remove the key AND run Services.msc before the bad services will reinstall that key. There are two ways around this… One, delete the above files from C:\Temp (or delete everything from C:\Temp if you like) then delete the Registry key but the files MAY be “open” and not deleteable -– or – you can use Autoruns (from SysInternals) and find the Scheduled Tasks, delete them and then delete the Registry key and the files. I found another problem in the registry that has not been mentioned yet… I searched the registry for the “special character” from the “Zones” entry and found some keys that had been modified with that character in the (Default) value. I reset them to the true (value not set) by selecting the (Default) key and hitting the delete on the keyboard. You get a warning – hit ok – and the key is configured correctly. I don’t know if that contributes to the problem but that value shouldn’t be in the Registry anyway. This problem affected MSC programs and also added a “hijack” to IE, always sending me to http://19638.21445.directhit.namiflow.com/.... Hope this helps!

From there, you need to check the "Deny" boxes for all users. Doing this should take care of the problem once and for all. I personally use my computer with Administrative privileges all the time, so I have no idea whether you need to change some settings as a non-administrative user in order to do this. Hope this works for you too! value already zero. this solved... thanks...

Unlike the rubbish that was stated before this post, this one works. This is the solution and Jishnu is brilliant. Thanks a million, friend. This should work.

it worked ! sloppy coding created a bogus zone that caused mayhem in lots of disparate places. 1) Quicken 2009 attachments would not display (warning about dangerous location) 2) windows 7 (64 bit) previewer previews denied for dangerous source. 3) Services pane acting strange (not permitting extended display) testing now. yep, all above problems are fixed by removing this bogus zone. dr Karron (drdbkarron) on facebook and drdbkarron@gmail.com

Thanks a lot. This totally solved the problem I had where the VMware Workstation installer just showed a gray page. Apparently the VMware Workstation installer uses a webpage for it's installation and thus my not so smart installation of Adobe flash player yesterday messed things up.
