One computer can access files on a second computer on a small XP network, but the second computer can't access files on the first.
I have a small office network running on XP Pro sp3. There are two computers and and a printer/scanner/fax wired to a router. Both computers can access the internet and the printer. The first computer can access all files on the second computer. The second computer can't access any files on the first computer. Both computers are in the same workgroup. I have checked the file share permissions. The computers were both seeing each other a few days ago. As far as I know, no software or other changes were made. It is possible that there was a change made on the second computer that I'm not aware of, but there is no one who knows.I can't come up with any more ideas. I've checked everything that I can think of. Could there be some random Firewall (native windows firewall) setting that I'm not aware of? Could an anti-virus program be blocking the sharing? I would be able to understand the problem better if neither computer could share files, but in this case, it's just the one that can't.The different error messages:1. When attempting to access files on computer #1 via a shortcut placed on desktop #2: The drive or network connection that the shortcut "xxx.lnk" refers to is unavailable. Maike sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again.2. When attempting to access files on computer #1 via My Network Places on computer #2: \\Computer #1\shared folder name is not accessible. You might not have pemission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found. All help is appreciated, as my business can't get any work done right now.

Hi, Jill. All help is appreciated, as my business can't get any work done right now.You will have a better chance of getting your business going again if you post to some forum OTHER than this "answersfeedback" forum. The not-very-obvious name means that this is only for feedback about these Answers forums. NOT about any technical problems at all, I'm afraid. :>(You might have more success for your hardware problem in Answers.en-US.xphardware.RC "Jill98" wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...I have a small office network running on XP Pro sp3. I'm having the same problem on a two-computer network, one running XP Pro and the other running XP Home. I worked on this all last Saturday and finally resolved it (I thought) when I disabled the anti-virus program on the computer that couldn't access files on the other. I reinstalled an anti-virus program and everything was up and running fine; I tested all the shares to be sure. Much to my surprise, the problem recurred this morning. I tried disabling the anti-virus program again, but this time it didn't help. I am getting different error messages, though. Previously I was getting messages similar to yours, but now I'm just getting an "Access denied" message. I have no idea what has changed, other than some XP updates being installed. Still, based on my earlier success I'd suggest you try disabling your anti-virus programs long enough to see if they are the cause of your current problem.
