I have a Windows 2008 domain with several WinXP desktops and two Win7Pro x64 desktops. On the first Win7 computer in Windows Explorer I can click on a mapped network drive, type in some text into the search box in the top right corner and Windows will search the mapped network drive no problem. On the second Win7 computer when I do the same thing it does absolutely nothing. It doesn't even attempt the search...the window does not change to the search window. What I CAN do on computer number two is drill down through "Network" to the share on the server and type in my search criteria and the results return as expected. I can also go to the "Searches" subfolder underneath the User folder, search Computer and the results will be returned from all mapped network drives. I have also tested this at two other client's offices and all Windows & machines seem to search the mapped drive with no issues. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Rob

Hi Rob, When did this issue happen? Temoprarily turn off the firewall and anti-virus software then Clean Boot the computer see the result. How about the local searching on your No.2 Windows 7 machine? Open the local disk,and try search some files. On the problematic machine, open Windows Explorer, press ALT key, then click Tools - Folder Option - Search tab. Ensure you check these: 1. In indexed locations, search file names and contents. 2. Include subfolders in search results when searching in file folders. 3. Find partial matches. 4. Include system directories. Then click Start, input Indexing options in the search box, press ENTER to open Indexing Options. Click Advanced, under Troubleshooting, click "Troubleshoot search and indexing". Choose the issue you encounterred, see if it will automatically resolve the issue. If the problem still exists, try rebuild index. Regards, Miya TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Miya, thanks for your response. The user claimed this happened after we installed AutoDesk Mechanical on his computer but both computers have that software on it and the other doesn't exhibit this behavior. Local searches work fine as does searching through "network" in windows explorer. It's just the mapped drives that do nothing. I can search the same share through "Network" as the mapped network drive... the Network search works but the mapped drive search does nothing. Again, when I type a word into the search box for a mapped network drive it doesn't even attempt the search. "Searching" doesn't even appear in the Explorer window. It just sits there. All the options you mentioned are checked under search options. I have reindexed although since the network drives are not indexed I didn't figure that would help and as I suspected it didn't change anything. Thanks Rob

Just in case anyone is looking at this I've narrowed the problem down to Dell Vostro machines both Desktop and Laptop.
