Offline folders stopped working
Using W7 Ent x64, SP1. I have used offline folder sync on my homedirectory on our fileserver (server2008). No problem at all before this weekend. The first problem I discovered was that I only had read access to my synched files when offline. I reconnected to the network and tried to sync, got Access denied on all files that CSC tried to sync. As far I can see this problem is related to my user. Offline folders are OK when using an other userid on the same pc. Logged on with my userid on an other PC the ofline folders fails in the same manner as on my own PC. I have also tried to set up offline sync between my PC and anoter win7 pc (at home) and it falis in the same way. I have formated the csc database, still same problem. No updates has been done on my pc or the domain in the timeframe leading up to discovering the problem. The really strange thing is that this problem occured on 3 different users roughly at the same time. All other users are fine. (1400) I'm really nervous for the possibility of this problem to spread in our organization. Any tips appreciated!! Regards Frode

Hi Frode, Thanks for posting in TechNet forum. Based on your description, I understand that, three of the users got "Access Denied" error when access the offline folders. In order to find the cause, we need to gather more information. 1. Go to the Event Viewer on your Windows 7 client, are there any logs record this failed access? 2. Temporarily disable the firewall and try to access again. 3. Check the Group Policy Settings, did you configure the "Encrypt the Offline Files cache" settings under: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files If yes, please disable it then check if it works. 4. Try a Clean Boot on your Windows 7 client, refer to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. In order to find if there's any third party application conflicts. In addition, if no clue can be found. Please use the Network Monitor to capture the network traffic and analyze the steps. Hi Miya, When I turned off encryption CSC worked again. Any clue of why encryption caused this? I would like to enable encryption again. All our users have this enabled by policy. Should we turn it off for all users? What are the alternatives here. Thank you! Regards Frode

Problem solved! An EFS certeficate has a time to live of 3 years. Ours expired on june 10th. We had planned to activete encryption of offline files thru a GPO, luckely we had not done it in production yet. It's a little strange that there are no warnings when EFS expires. Regards Frode
