Hey there, we deploy Windows 7 and want to set the user documents on server as offline for mobile users. The folder redirection works fine, all folders are on the share of our Windows 2008 R2 server \\server\users\%username%\Documents On the windows 7 client i can see that the folders have the green icon there, when i right click the folder i can see "make available offline" is checked. but when i go offline, the files are only half visible and have a red X in the cornern - so i cant access them. When i sync a file manually, i get there error message on the sync center "The Process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". Happens for a single file or for all files, when i try to sync the folder. I found many similar problems here, but none could be of any help. In this post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/d86e75e8-55ab-4443-a76f-1af2978f0e74 i saw the registry entries. So we applied them to our fileserver, rebooted, but nothing changed. I even added this keys to the clients, but again, doesnt work. So cant MS do anything about that? You have that great stuff but cant use it? Or anyone has some ideas how to work around? We really need the offline files for our mobile users. Thank you very much Nina

Hi, The error message ("The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process") is very likely due to the fact that some applications conflict with the offline folder synchronization process. To narrow down the issue, you may boot the problematic Windows 7 with Clean Boot. You could also delete Temporary offline files on the problematic Windows 7 computer and then re-sync to check if the fix the issue. Hope it helps. I am also having the same problem with certain files such as certain word documents and pdfs. I really need to get this sorted out as I need this feature.

Its still the same issue. I was booting with almost no services at all (only network and offline files), but still i had the same error. Deleting temporary offline files didnt help either :( Our company really needs Offline files ...worked fine with XP

Well finally we found out, it must be the server itself. I tried with another server, and there it worked fine. I have to correct myself, our fileserver is just 2008 Standard, no R2. So I tried it with an 2008 R2 - worked fine. Tested on another 2008 Standard Server - worked fine. So something must be wrong on the fileserver itself. But how to find out? We will upgrade in the next days to R2 and see what will happen then

We found out it isnt the 2008 Standard, just someting wrong with Server 2008 itself it seems. We made a complete new one with 2008 R2 and it works now. But i still would like to know which configuaration should have caused this. Anyways, thanks for your help :)
