We have synchronization conflicts when using Offline files. Disabling Offline Files is not an option for for the school district. We have Windows Server 2008R2 sharing the files. A Windows 7 - 32-bit client has the Documents folder redirected with a GPO (user config/policies/Windows settings/ folder redirection/documents/basic %username%\My Documents). Which is the users home folder profile mapped to H: We have more than 1 server for different users and everyone with Win 7 has this issue with Office files. XP did not have this issue. Hi, I found some same symptom as yours and here is the conflict explanation for your reference: What is a sync conflict? A sync conflict occurs when Sync Center can't reconcile differences between a file stored in one location and a version of the same file in another location, thereby stopping sync from being completed. This usually happens when a file has changed in both locations since its last sync, making it difficult to determine which changes to save. Sync Center will ask which version should be left unchanged (kept as the master copy) and which version should be updated. Selecting one version to sync with will resolve the conflict. Another common cause of sync conflicts is when a file has been deleted from one location and changed in a second location since its last sync. Sync Center will give you a choice of resolving the sync conflict by deleting the remaining file or copying it to the other location. Hi, Thanks for the general information on syncing. We are talking about all users (hundreds) on 1 gb network using only one computer at a time having issues with Office files in their redirected home (Documents) due to the way Office makes .tmp files. Students and staff end up with Documents that don't follow them from computer to computer as they move around the building. My only option is to disable offline files for towers and find a third party product to sync the documents folder for laptop users at log out. This was never an issue with XP

The My Documents (Documents) folder is redirected by a Group Policy to H:\My Documents already. This Redirection with Group Policy automatically turns offline files on also. This is how we did it with XP and now with Windows 7. Problem is Windows 7 and Office 2010 has issues with .tmp files. Why would offline files fail while staying online. At first I was thinking it just needed to sync at log out but I it appears it is from the .tmp files that Word makes. Maybe the tmp files sync in the middle of the document being edited and then get changed locally before saving to the .docx and then a sync errors occurs.

I have the same problem with my Win 7 machines, but we are still using Office 2003. It was working just fine with Win XP..<o:p></o:p> I don't know why even if the PC is online (connected to the file server) my users have conflict with office file. They also have conflict with files on their home folder, so only 1 user can access it.. It seems to conflict with himself..<o:p></o:p>

Hi, Lux209 I feel your pain. I have been told by some to turn offline files off and use synctoy. This is like stepping back in time before XP. I'm looking into a TechNet Subscription to see if Microsoft will help.

Annie, We only have issues with the Office files failing but we do find other program files that have not synced correctly. For example IE 9 Favorites or Firefox files. This is not an Office only issue. Office is not able to sync, Offline files is a core component of Windows.

Hi, When you found the sync is not successful, could you please describe more information in detail to me: I suppose you have the same files on the client and the server side, then: add one new file named "test1.txt" on the client when you are offline.then, connect the client to the network, see if the test1.txt will be synced to the server Try with another type of the file, such as IE9 favorites, can you see them from the server or not? When you found they are not synced to the server side, open the sync center on Windows 7 and sync them manually, will you get any error message from it? If you right click and resolve (pick copy to other location) the file will move to server. We have 5 to 10 .tmp files that can not be resolved and other file types that are also in conflict. Hi, From the information, I have one questions about the step 2: After you create a new document in your redirected My Documents folder, I understand it means you create a new file on your local computer. And you said that you are online at that time, so I think this new created document will be synced to the server side. After you create the new document, please access by \\servername$nocsc$\sharedfolder\username\my documents from the client to check if the new created document has been synced to the server or not. The command "$nocsc$" will enforce you to use SMB provider to access the server side. If the document appears at the server side, then this means the online connection has no problem with sync. Then you said that you logs off the computer and move to another room, I think this means you need to disconnect the pc from the corp network and connect it again. During this period of time, I think the computer is offline. Then, when you connect to another room and logon, based on my knowledge, the client will be synced to the server at this time. If the new document has already existed on the server, then it disappears, it indicates the issue is related to your server. However, if the document does not exist before your moving to another room, then this issue is related to the sync issue. Please confirm this first and let me know your result. Thanks. Annie, The document is not on the server! We are talking about desktop computers that never go offline. They do not move the desktop computers. They are always online. We have ten labs of 31 desktop computers. Period 1 of the school day the user will be in one lab then move to the next lab. THEY DO NOT MOVE THE COMPUTERS! The new files HAS A SYNC ERROR and is not on the server. Due to the SYNC ERROR

So, according to the symptom, I did more research and found some tests to let you try as below: Please take one TEST Windows 7 to follow the steps below: Disabled indexing for TMP files Go to Control Panel -> Indexing Options -> Advanced Options -> Select the File Types tab Add TMP to the extension list and then uncheck the check box to turn off indexing of TMP files. Reinitialized the database Configure the registry key below to clear the CSC cache Go to HKLM\System\CCS\Services\CSC\Parameters Create a new DWORD (32bit) key and name it FormatDatabase Set the value as 1 Restarted the client to see if we could resolve the issue.
