Offline files not synchronizing
I have an folder on my office PC that I have "made available on offline" on my vista business laptop (I also have it mapped to a drive). It synchronized fine the first few times, but now the sync center says the folder is offline even when I am connected to the network. I can see other shared (not offline) folders on my office PC and access them fine when I am connected to the network. But, the folder I have marked as offline is always in offline mode. I have tried doing the whole process again: I delete the offline copy of the folder, browse to the office PC and mark the folder as offline again, it syncs for the first few times and then the whole system breaks down again. There are no firewalls preventing access to the office PC (since I can see the rest of the shared folders fine).I would appreciate any help on the issue. Thanks.

Hi SiddK, Thank you for posting. Before moving on, please let me know whether you can manually synchronize an offline file or folder. Mostly, this problem is caused by third party software, I suggest you take a clean boot to troubleshoot this issue. Clean boot ================= 1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. If the issue still persists, please collect your Event Log for me. I will take a further research on it. Event Log ======================= 1. Click "Start", input "eventvwr" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search bar and press Enter. 2. Right click on "Application" on the left frame, choose "Save Log file As"; in the pop-up window, click to choose the Desktop icon on the left frame, input "app" in the "File name" blank, and then click save. 3. Right click on "System", with the same method, save it as "sys". 4. Locate the two saved log files on the Desktop and upload them to the following link: https://sftus.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=c037079c-0318-4aeb-8c69-b7c073a23acd Password: RfvXW3)rJZ2XjWB Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

Robinson,Thank you for being so prompt in replying. I did a clean boot and the automatic and manual sync did start working. Earlier even the manual did not work since it never saw the folder as online. I narrowed down the service that was causing the problem, it was: AVG Free 8 Watchdog, a service that comes with my AVG Virus Scanner. Thanks

Hi SiddK, Thank you for your update. I understand that AVG cause the problem. Please understand that AVG is not a Microsoft product, you can contact AVG support to address this problem. Thanks.

Hello,In continuation of the same thread. I removed AVG virus scanner from my system and offline files were working fine. Now I have McAfee and it has stopped working again (same symptoms as above). I know that AVG and McAfee are not microsoft products, but something needs to be fixed in offline files so I can have a virus scanner on my system. Could you let me know of a virus scanner that will work with offline files?ThanksSiddK
