Offline files make share disconnect periodically
Hi, I've been struggling with this issue for a while now and my administrators here can't help either. I am on Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit as member of a domain. Since Windows search can't index network drives I want to make a share available offline so that it gets indexed. There are no problems with any of the shares and drive mappings. However, if I make the my main folder (with about 4GB worth of files) on my home share available offline, that share (whether drive mapped or not) starts to go offline and online periodically, while the network connection and server are provably good. An excerpt from the Offline Files log is below. Of course syncing then takes forever and generates a large but decreasing number of errors. However, other folders on the same share that I don't want to make available offline are then often not accessible. The same thing works perfectly on my other machine that is running Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit and it used to work perfectly on Vista Business 32 and 64bit. I've tried resetting the offline files database, etc. Nothing helps, it is completely reproducible in this installation. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Hi, How many space do you have in the computer? The size and number of your offline files determine how much hard disk space your offline files use. So, please confirm you have enough hard disk space for offline files. You can refer to: Manage disk space for offline files Hope it helps. Hi Alex, thanks for trying. I checked and the space usage limit was set to 13 GB, both for offline and temporary files. I upped it to 30 GB and tried again, but I am getting the same behavior. The share is disconnecting periodically and this is only caused by activating "Always available offline". The network connection is perfectly good, all other shares stay online! Thanks for any further thought. Is there any way to debug this, i.e. set a higher logging level for the offline files event log, so that one could see why the share is going offline. Cheers Gregor

Hi everyone, an update to the (as of yet) unsolved problem. It appears that this behavior occurs mostly when my laptop is also connecting to the same share. As soon as I disconnect the laptop, the share is usually stable. Cheers Gregor

We are also seeing the same issues, in Operational event log for OfflineFiles the drives seem to flip between disconnected and reconnected at an alarming rate. In group policy we also disable slow link detection, as to force clients when connected to high speed LAN connections at their desks they are to NEVER work offline. However still these are the events we see in the log. Same problem here. Offline files go offline periodically. How can we debug this? The OfflineFiles event log is not very helpful.

It's a bug. I had a case around this problem. There are several (some known) problems around CSC (Client Side Caching, e.g. Offline Files). Contact MS to obtain the latest hotfixes for csc components. Maybe your specific problem will be fixed. Mine has not yet been fixed :(

Same issue here, Win 7 ent 64 SP1. Causes applications which store data in non offline enabled folders to crash. Does not occur on XP machine.
