Offline files & high CPU usage while connected
The problem is CPU usage of the CscService (offline files) in win 7. For example: 1. System idle process: 100h CPU time 2. Svchost (running CscService): 12h CPU time. 3. The next longest CPU time comes from system (1h), searchindexer (23min), etc… The result of this high CPU usage on laptops is strong negative impact on battery life and heat dissipation while hardly used. The fact is that I have lots of offline files (> 100k), but they are static and concern mostly documents. One is adjusted at best simultaneously every 20 minutes or so. QUESTION: Can someone confirm that large amounts of offline files are problematic in Windows 7 and how one can tweak the CscService variables to reduce the CPU-usage? I don’t remember having such problems with windows XP. Regards, Davor PS Note also that there are various posts on the internet referring to this issue (but no sollution): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistanetworking/thread/3775a994-d871-4ff5-b1b4-00efea641086/ google: “CscService cpu”

Need more details (Laptop model, Antivirs, Patch level)would help to eliminate the problem. Is this problem occurs only during that time or all the time ? Dell + McAfee = 100% CPU. (McAfee has been lately reported high CPU issue by many users lately)

It's a custom installation on a Lenovo x121e. Using MS security essentials as antivirus with windows 7. Almost no other (Lenovo) software installed. I have noticed that when I am not connected to the server, the CPU usage is normal. I assume that csc is doing some verification or something while connected, which causes high CPU times...
