Hi, First of all, did the service work before? If it ever worked, when did you find it failed and which changes have been made on the Windows Vista computer recently before the issue occurred. At this time, I would like to provide the following suggestions: 1. I found the issue may be caused by the factor that the CSC database was corrupted. Please also try the following steps: Reset the CSC database on the Vista using the following procedure. ======================================== Note: Please perform a system backup before performing the steps. 1) Open Schedule tasks under Administrative Tools 2) Right click in 'Task Scheduler' and select 'Create task...' 3) Name: {Any Name} User Account: Click 'Change user or group' and type SYSTEM in the text box, clicking OK. 4) In Actions, Click New. 5) In 'Program/script', type: c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe 6) In 'Add Arguments', type: /crd c:\Windows\CSC /s /q 7) Click 'OK' 8) Click 'Task Scheduler Library' to be able to see the created task 9) Right click in that task and select 'Run'. 10) Restart machine. After performing the above steps, please try to start the Offline Files Service again to see if it works now. If the issue persists, please continue with the next step. 2. Regarding this Error Cannot start the service Offline Files on local computer. Error 0x80070003: The system cannot find this path., it means that the Offline Files Service is not starting because it cannot find the specified path which the service needs. This error may be caused by the factor that some system components were corrupted or missing. Please use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps: 1) Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. 2) Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. Then please try to start the Offline Files Service again to see if it works now. 3.This issue can also be caused by the factor that some third party software conflicts with the service, please perform a Clean Boot to check our issue. Clean boot ================= 1) Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2) Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3) Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. NOTE: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and checking on Normal Startup in the General tab. In the Clean Boot Environment, the third party services and applications are disabled, please try to start the service again to see if it helps. If the issue persists, please collect more information: 1. Please run CMD and then run the following commands one by one and post the output to this thread. sc query csc sc query cscservice sc qc csc sc qc cscservice 2. Please check the event log to see if there are some related error messages. Thanks!

Hi NicIt worked! Both offline folders and folder creation/renaming of shared folders seems to work fine.No 1: "Reset the CSC database on the Vista using the following procedure" did it. I guess the service have never worked. My computer was installed medio february this year. When this error occured, I formatted it and rebuilt it, based on the partition from the vendor (ALT+F10, on Acer Travelmate 6292). The error was still there. Till now.Again: Thank you for your very good help. With kind regards,Simen

Hi Nic,First of all, thank you for your message.I try all the steps you describe and for me it doesn't work.So I have been more radical, I have rename the subfolder C:\Windows\CSC\v2.0.6 in v2.0.6.old (I have taken the appropriation of the folder to do that) I reboot twice and now my synchronisation center is back, the offline folder service is working (I precise that the service was functional for 6 months and stop to work 2 weeks ago for me)I can now rename folder on a share folder on a server, something I can't do with this problem...The only problem left is that I lost all my offline folder settings... I will contact my support to know the good parameters for that, I suppose that my desktop icons need to be synchronise... because I try to unplug my network cable and I lost my icons...thanks again !Edit : I finally have done a "gpupdate" and after rebooting everything is Ok now.
