Offline Files failing to change back to Online mode after laptop has been in hibernation mode for an extended period of time.
Hi Guys, I have set up redirected folders with offline files for a client. OS is Windows 7 x64 Enterprise, server OS is Win 2003 R2 Enterprise, laptops are Lenovo T410s. Two problems are presenting; Issue 1 If a laptop goes into hibernation for an extended period of time i.e. an hour, the offline files fail to change their status back to 'Online' when reconnecting to the network. I have waited for over 15 minutes to give the service a chance to detect the change in network status. Other network services such as web browsing and E-mail are available. Logging off and then back on again resets the status to 'Online'. Two caveats on this however; The above problem only presents itself if a full initial syncronisation has never taken place before. If the laptop is brought out of hibernation within a couple of minutes, the problem does not occur. I suspect that this is linked to the change in architecture for Offline Files. I read that not all files are syncronised straight away, but placeholders known as 'sparse files' are employed. These files are then 'filled out' by the Offline Files Agent over time. Issue 2 Syncronisation takes a very long time! Because of issue 1, we tried to initiate a manual syncronisation. The theory being that reconnection works once a full sync has occured. It is taking best part of a day to sync less than 2GB data! There is no transition into 'slow link' mode from what we've seen, so I would assume that the sparse files would be filled out fairly quickly. Are we still running on a syncronisation schedule when initiating a manual sync? I wouldn't think so, but then I'm stumped at the moment! Any ideas on either of the two issues would be appreciated! Thanks Richard
