Office Word 2007 UAC and Permissions Errors
I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 as an administrator and have installed Office 2007 Professional Plus 2007.First of all, whenever I open Word 2007, an annoying UAC prompt pops op asking me whether I trust this program and want to let it execute. Whenever I've tried to open up a word document directly (rather than first running Word and then selecting "Open"), I get the error message:"Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\....docx'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."Then if the document was from my recent documents:"The item you selected is unavailable. It might have been moved, renamed, or removed. Do you want to remove it from the list?"This is clearly not the case, because if Word has already been opened, and I select the same file from the list, it opens just fine. I'm pretty sure that Windows has restricted the file because of inadequate permissions, so that it cannot open.Secondly, I am unable to open word documents that I've downloaded from the internet (Firefox 3.0.7). When I try and open a file with Word 2007:"C:\Users\Daniel\AppData\Local\Temp\....docx could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences."And if I save it first and then try to open it: "Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\....docx'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."The file takes up space on the hard drive, so I know it successfully downloaded, but Word cannot open it. Files from the Internet fail to open whether or not Word is already running. The same file, however, will open with Wordpad, with the security warning:"This document contains code that your security settings do not allow, so it might not display correctly."I'm pretty sure that both of these problems are caused by the Windows security overreacting to Word (So far, Powerpoint, Excel work just fine). Is there any way I can change the security settings, or place Microsoft Office on an exception list, so I stop having these problems, and don't have to click the UAC prompt each time I want to run Word?Danielrunning Windows 7 Ultimate 64 biton a Dell Inspiron 1520Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 GhzNVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT4 GB Ram

I think your install is mangled. Office 2007 should not be throwing up any UAC prompts at all. Mine is not doing this here. Can you uninstall and reinstall Office?

While reinstalling office 2007 initially fixed the problem, once the following updates installed:Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB946691)Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB958439)Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB958437)Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB954326)Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB956358)Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951944)Security Update for Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 (KB950114)Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB959634)Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 (KB951550)Security Update for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 (KB951338)2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB952142)Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB951808)Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB936514)- the same problems as before returned. Should I uninstall these updates?

You have a problem with your install. Office 2007 works wonderfully with both Windows 7 32bit and Windows 7 64bit. Is your Windows 7 a clean install or an upgrade?

You're not trying to run any macros or anything else on startup that might modify some of the files are you?

Windows 7 was a clean install. Once again, I can open files from the internet, etc. if I download them to the desktop first and then use the open option in the word toolbar. This problem is only with Office Word, a UAC prompt always pops up when i run it from the desktop and the start menu. The other office programs have been working fine for me. To dutchie027: I don't think I'm running any macros at the startup of windows, if that's what you're asking. I have macro settings for Word set to "Disable all macros with notification".

Hi Dannypox, I have the same prolem ! When UAC is ON (recommended ) I cannot open office word files from any shortcuts or any place from my drives. By the way I can open them from word itself without any problem. The UAC pops up and I say "Yes" and then I recieve this error message (translated from french):an error occurred while sending a command to the program - French version is:une erreur s'est produite lors de l'envoi d'une commande au programme. Then Word opens with a blank page.

As I made an upgrade from Vista, I needed to change a compatibility setting here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 then right click onWINWORD -------> Compatibility tap ------>check box Execute this software in compatibility mode and choose Vista Sp1 or Sp2. That's it

Maybe a bit too late, but if anyone is still having this problem, check windows update. I'm on a Win7 enterprise x64 that was upgraded from vista enterprise x64, and using Office 2007. Ever since the upgrade I've been having the same problem as Lionfish75. Running the half a dozen windows updates that were available has removed the UAC prompt when launching winword. I'm not sure which one did the trick, as none of the corresponding KB articles mention UAC, but I'm motoring along with word again.

Hello Daniel, In my case these errors (UAC popup, etc) were caused by the Compatibility tab of Winword.exe being set for Windows XP. Try unchecking "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" on the Compatibility tab. Hope that works for you!

I am running the same basic system and configuration as Dannypox. Until last week all Office components opened without the UAC popup. Now, Outlook starts with the UAC. I have changed nothing on the computer hardware or software, except the automatic Microsoft updates. How do I get rid of it? BTW, I ran the Office Diagnostic and it came up clean.

Hi ijblack, Checked the Compatibility tab for Outlook.exe? The "Run this program as Administrator" option is to be unchecked. Ramesh Srinivasan | The Winhelponline Blog Microsoft MVP, Windows Desktop Experience

Hey idk if you have fixed the problem you were having but i was having the same trouble. Im running a clean version of Win7 Home Premium and Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 and i was having the same UAC problem. After right clicking on my desktop icon and choosing properties i clicked the compatibility tab and at the bottom the box for Run as administator was checked (it is unchecked for all other Office programs) after removing the tick i have not had any problems with a UAC dialogue poping up.

I'm having the same problem. It's only with Word. The rest of the programs in Office 2007 open just fine. Only Word asks for permission to execute. This began after the latest Microsoft automatic update two days ago. I'm wondering what will happen if I uninstall the Security Update for Word but leave the other security updates alone.

Voila! Your solution of unchecking the "Run as Administrator" box on the compatibilities tab worked! Thanks. I had already uninstalled the two latest Word updates, but that didn't help. I hope Microsoft will correct this glitch in future updates.

You are right. It worked for me in Word 2007: uncheck compatibility and uncheck run as administrator. Files will open as usual from any directory.
