Office 2007 Mapi protocol not registered with Windows 7 enterprise
I have installed office 2010 TP in my Windows 7 Enterprise. After using it for a month i uninstalled it and installed Office 2007 back. Everything works fine except search. When i search for anything it throws the results properly but when i try to open that result it throws error "Unable to open this Internet Shortcut. The protocol "mapi" does not have a registered program"Can anyone answer how to resolve this problem. Thanks in advance

+1 on the problem. I did the same thing as Ashish - had Office 2010, then uninstalled and went back to Office 2007 - now search is busted.Probably going to be best answered by someone from the Office team. I'll see what I can figure out for a responder..Dave- Dave

Hi, Does this issue only occur in Outlook? Are you connecting to Exchange server? I suggest checking the Search mode first. For the detailed information, please refer to the following link: Turn on or off Cached Exchange Mode Please check if the issue persists after turning on/off the Cached mode. From the Windows 7 system stand point, you can reset Indexing service as below: 1. Click the Start Button, type APPWIZ.CPL in the start search box and press Enter. 3. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" on the left pane. 4. In the Windows Features dialog box, uncheck/Recheck Indexing Service. In addition, please set the Outlook Set default program =============== 1. Click the Start Button, -> Default programs 2. Click Set your default programs. 3. Click the Outlook and choose Set this program as default. 4. Click OK. 5. Click Set program access and computer defaults 6. Expand Custom 7. Besides Outlook, check Enable access to this program. 8. Click OK. Does it work?Vivian Xing - MSFT

Thanks, this did the trick. I added a new "string value" in that regkey and then pasted the contents to the right of the '=' without the " marks, and all is well in the world again.- Dave

Just to add a precision : ShellFolder is a String Value that needs to be added under HKLM/Software/Classes/mapi. Great, thank you Travis!
