I've got the following setup:2Windows 7machines (on our domain)Domain firewall is offAllow Remote Assistance connections to this computer is checkedAllow Connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop is selectedMy domain user account it in the Remote Desktop Users groupWhen I attempt to offer remote assistance to one from the other I get: "Your offer to help could not be sent"I also tried using policy and had my account listed as a helper with the same result.I found this thread concerning Vista and it appears to be the same issue. Can anyone confirm?http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistanetworking/thread/7735fcde-4bb4-4e31-b952-099168f53235

Suggestion 1: Change settings in GP ======================== Open Local Group Policy Editor via the command gpedit.msc on the PC which you offer remote assistance to. Then, please navigate to Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System \ Remote Assistance, locate the following two items in the right panel: Solicited Remote Assistance Offer Remote Assistance 1. Double click Solicited Remote Assistance and choose the Enable option, choose Allow helps to remotely control the computer. 2. Double click Offer Remote Assistance, enable it. Also, choose Allow helps to remotely control the computer. Click on the Show button, under Value, please input the domain user name, such as domainname\user, or dominname\groupname, please double check the account you have typed as the program does not validate the account automatically. Suggestion 2: ============ Please also run Windows Remote Assistance as administrator. Click Start, type Remote Assistance in the Search box, right click on Windows Remote Assistance and choose Run as administrator. Good luck!

Hi Nina, thanks for the reply.I have already tried all of that and it still does not work. We have used this for a long time with XP with the following GPconfiguration:1. Solicited Remote Assistace Disabled, as we do not want users sending out invites.2. Offer Remote Assistance enabled with a security group containing oursupport personelspecified in 'helpers'I understand that remote assistance was changed in Vista (and I assume it is the same in 7) but the policy seems to be the same and there is nothing that indicates it should work any differentlyunder 7in a domain environment.

When does the issue occur? Right after you click Invite someone you trust to help you, or when you select any option to send an invitation? I suggest that you log on with a local user account but not a domain account on both computers, verify the related policy and then try to launch Remote Assistance. If it works this time, check GPOs on your domain controller, find the GPO that changes this policy. If the issue occurs after you select an option to send an invitation, please let us know which method you are trying to use. Send via email or export an invitation file? Also please let us know if you could send invitation via Windows Live Messenger.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thanks for the reply Arthur. There is never an invitation involved, we are using this in a help desk scenario. I will try what you suggested and post the results in a bit. These arethe steps I take:1. msra.exe2. Help someone who has invited you3. Advanced connection option for help desk4. Enter the computer name or IPAt this point I get theerror "Your offer to help could not be sent"These are the policy settings I'm using:1. Solicited Remote Assistace Disabled, as we do not want users sending out invites.2. Offer Remote Assistance enabled with a security group containing oursupport personelspecified in 'helpers'

What did you reset? I have this issue now & I'm pretty sure it has to do with COM security settings.

Fixed! Something turned off the ability to use the RA DCOM. You have to enable it again in the registry at; [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWA RE\Microsoft\Ole] & add "EnableDCOM"="Y". Here's a link with the registry entry; http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/on-technology.nsf/docid/2007110710244160 And here is a link to a forum which explains it; http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/uninstall-issue It's weird 'cause I had no Symantec products installed.
