Offer Remote assistance on Vista doesn't work!
Offer Remote Assistance on Vista Enterprise doesn't work! I setup a very simple scenario with 2 Vista computers -still the same result:- Firewall is off on both computers- user is added to Administrators and Remote Destop local security groups- Remote Assistance is enabled. Error message:Your offer to help could not be sent Any ideas?

When I tested Remote Assistance offer functionality between two Vista Ultimate machinesover my small home network (ie. workgroup environment) I had to enable both the Solicted and Offer group policies. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306496 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;301527 I can't speak to whether or not you need to do that in a domain environment or not since I have no way of testing that. I'm having this exact problem. Have been trying to find a solution for months. I have both the solicied and offer GPOs enabled. That doesn't make it work for me. I can connect my Vista machine to XP machines--just not other Vista machines.

I have managed to get this working! I have added "authenticated users" as helpers on the vista machines in the "offer remote assistance" properties and it works fine for me now. Hope this solves the problem.

We are having this problem too, Symantec was disabled on both computers and our domain admin group is in the local admins and has access to the remote computer. This makes no sense and is frustrating beyond compare.

Whole-heartedly agree. This is so frustrating.There must be some way to get this to work in a domain environment. I've done a whole load of googling, and my settings are spot-on given the advice I've seen.Has anyone got a solution for this yet?Regards,Dean

try Remote Web Assistance from www.vedivi.com . It tunnels RA connections through Internet Explorer and does a local connection on the other computer. That you sort out your policies pbs and your firewall should be happy. You use automatically/transparently use Miscrosoft Remote Assistance. B.

hi,i haved the same problem on my domaini found the solution, go to the DCOM configuration TOOLand change the securities properties of the RASERVER componantit works !!!!!

T_Cab's idea worked for me too. I did this on the windows 7 pc trying to offer help: Administrative Tools -> Component Services -> My Computer -> DCOM Config -> RAServer -> Properties -> Security tab -> edit on each of the three permission sections and add my own user account. Despite the the fact that I had GPO's in place that let this all work fine with WinXP I had to do the above to get it to work.If that still doesnt work for you, apparently some people are getting this registry entry to work:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole]"EnableDCOM"="Y"

Hi all, still can't manage to get remote assistant work from Win7 to Win7, getting "your offer to help could not be sent remote assistance" error. win7 to winxp can, winxp to winxp can but winxp to win7 getting "Automation server can't create odject" or permission denied (i login winxp with my domain account which is member of domain global group-RA that has been added to offer remote assistant helper, applied to clients via GPO) should i install 939820 patch from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2003088 on Windows 2003 DC?
