Offer Remote Assistance
Hello,
Having problem. I have 2 Windows 7 machines in a domain environment. If I use the invitation based RA, everything works fine over wan/lan etc, no problems
What we rather do is offer remote assistance instead. If both computers are on same switch(same subnet), I can offer RA no problem. If they are on different subnets or wan, the offer remote assistance connection fails UNLESS windows firewall is turned off.
If windows firewall is off, then it works over the WAN.
Any idea why?
Thx

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.
It’s obvious that firewall is the source. Because firewalls can restrict communication between
your computer and the Internet, you might need to change firewall settings in order to use
Windows Remote Assistance. You could take the following steps to check the issue can be resolved:
1.
Open
Windows Firewall by clicking the
Start button , and then clicking
Control Panel. In the search box, type
firewall, and then click
Windows Firewall.
2.
In the left pane, click
Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall.
3.
Click
Change settings. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
4.
Under
Allowed programs and features, select the check box next to
Remote Assistance, and then click OK.
Hope it helps.
