Odd network problem
I have a network problem that seems to be different from other threads I have read. When I installed W7RC a few days ago, I successfully setup my home network and internet access. It worked well for 3 days. On the 4th day, I lost internet connectivity. While troubleshooting the problem, I noticed a 2ndnetwork connection had been created:"unidentified network". Both networks indicate "no internet connectivity". Eventually, I found a temporary fix: I can disable and then re-enable the NIC. This causes the "unidentified network" to disappear, and the "home network" regains internet connectivity. This works fine until I reboot, at which point the "unidentified network"re-appears, causing me to lose internet access. Rinse, repeat.I have tried drivers, and W7 says they are up-to-date. I have also checked with nvidia, to see if they offer a different driver. It is an NFORCE4 motherboard with integrated NIC. Any suggestions?

Petrym, you are ahead of me. My airlink101/realtek wireless NIC worked, sort of, but would lose connection. Showed with a red X between PC and net, showed with a 'house' for a while, and now says connection available but won't connect. This '7' release candidate doen not inspire a big lot of confidence. But for sure it will improve. Using XP, I had solid connections every time. Weak from the AP at the other end of the house, but satisfactory. With '7' I cannot use the machine that I downloaded the '7' software with! Microsoft got some 'splainin' to do, IMO. The RC was released with apparently minimal testing. Why should each and every variety of NIC have a different set of problems if they all had drivers written to the same spec? Hunh, Microsoft????? tom

I have the same exact problem with my integrated Realtek NIC. I would really like a fix and have been trying to find one for about a month now. it seems to deteriorate about a week after i install the os which makes me think it's a piece of software I have installed.

After I made the original post, I toyed with settings on the NIC (there was no reason to my madness). Today I have haven't had any trouble. I doubt the settings fixed anything, because I did nothing different to cause the problem. Probably coincidence.

Robinson Zhang may have marked this post as answered, but no solution was proposed, it worked so badly that I un-installed '7'. I went back to XP, using bootsect to restore NT compatibility, and using the Vista retrograde procedure mostly. Microsoft may have released '7' to manufacturing as I read elsewhere, but this problem is not solved as far as I am concerned. I won't be looking at it for a while as it is a useless change to me, fancy as it may be. Kind of reminds me of old Solaris 9 user interface. tom

Go to a command prompt and do an ipconfig and check the gateway settings. If you see 0.0.0.0 and your normal gateway entry then that is the problem. Fix that worked for me is to type route delete 0.0.0.0 and hit enter. Once you see the ok statement then do a ipconfig /release and renew. You should be in business.

I have the exact same problem with my Realtek NIC (motherboard integrated)! I start the computer and there's no internet access. I disable the NIC and then use windows troubleshooter which finds the NIC inactivated and so it helps me activate it and voila. My other computer (running on XP) is plugged in to the same router and has got full access to internet. And the win7 drivers are up to date. Mine also worked just fine for a couple of days and then stopped working when i installed a program, so i restored my system to before the installation and then everything was fine. Then i installed the same program again and everything still worked. So i came to the conclusion that the program i installed was innocent. Same thing happened with a few other programs but eventually i got tired of doing restores all the time, it's easier to just deactivate/activate the NIC on every boot. But now i'm getting really tired of that as well! Anyone with ideas?
