Odd behavior with CTRL key
Hi there, I'm getting odd behavior in which pressing the CTRL key (in preparation for CTRL-C, CTRL-V, CTRL-E to execute SQL, etc...) switches tabs in a tabified application such as IE / SQL Mgt Studio / Visual Studio.... I've checked Control Panel / Ease of Access to ensure I don't have Toggle Keys or Filter Keys set up (I don't). I've confirmed it's fairly random, and sometimes I'm able to copy/paste/execute (use the CTRL key as expected) and other times the same action done the same way opens a new tab. This is really a pain, as you can imagine. Because I can't find anyone else with this issue, I'm sure it's possible this isn't a bug and I've done something somewhere, so if there's a keyboard shortcut I'm accidentally enabling / activating, could you please tell me how to shut it off? Thanks very much, STA - Win 7 RC2 with all updates to today (10/6/2009) - HP Pavillion dv4

It should not be caused by a setting. First we can try a Clean Boot. Please refer the steps for Windows Vista. If issue will not occur in Clean Boot, which means the issue is caused by third party programs we disabled. Please continue perform the narrow down steps to find out the root cause. If issue persists in Clean Boot Mode, I suggest that let's try to boot the computer into Safe Mode for further testing. Meanwhile, if there I another keyboard, let's replace current one to see if it is a keyboard issue.

Thank you, Shaon. I did the Clean Boot and was *not* able to repro, and also couldn't repro with all Services enabled. Now that I've enabled "Startup Items" I've repro'd the problem, but haven't been able to pinpoint the app that's causing the problem. I'll utilize Clean Boot to try to narrow it down further. When I track down the problem app I'll post here to let you know. Thanks again, STA
