OS Shifting

Hi There!

We are having the HP Workstation with Preinstalled Win 8.1 Pro OS in it on 1TB HDD. We want to add 1 more HDD which will be SSD for performance boosting. My question is that, is it possible to move the preinstalled OS to new SSD drive, so that we can boot from SSD & it will increase the performance of the system.

Thanks & Regards

Rajesh

Hi Rajesh,

Thank you for posting this query on the TechNet community forums.

From the description I understand that you're looking for a way to move your preinstalled OS to a new SSD drive presumably without installing a clean version of the OS and migrating the data.

There are a range of options available to you to help you achieve this, however not all of them are free and all of them are third party. Unfortunately, Microsoft do not offer such a service.

You could try using EaseUs Partition Master:

Hi,

In my opinion, it would be better to make a backup and then clean install Windows on SSD, this can decrease lots of potential problem.

if you have preinstalled OS (OEM), I suggest contact HP. Since WH changes like HDD maybe will caused activation issue

this is example case
