OSX 10.6 network share issues with windows 7
I have two problems with windows 7 that I never have with XP. If I have a SMB connection from my Mac to a Windows 7 PC and my mac goes to sleep, when it wakes up i can't connect to any Windows 7 shares until i reboot the Windows 7 PC. The other issue i have is during a large file copy from my Mac to the Win 7 pc the connection often drops and I can't re connect until i restart the Win 7 PC. I have seen this mention on other forums but no one seems to have an answer as to how to permanently fix it. I don't have this issue when connected to XP machines. I have tried this on Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate and have the same issue.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. Is there an error message when Mac fails to reconnect to Windows 7 after losing connection? If so, please let us know the details. Based on my research, I would like to provide you the following suggest: 1. I suggest that you can go to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication level and change the value to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated” to see how it works. 2. You can go to Computer Management - System Tool - Shared Folder - Sessions to check if the session still exists when the issue occurred. Meanwhile, I would like to share the following link with you: Mac OS X: How to connect to Windows File Sharing (SMB) Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Also, considering this issue is also related to Mac, you can contact Mac support for help directly since they are familiar with their products: Apple - Support Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. I have tried the suggestion above but it has no affect. I don't have this same issue on two of my other windows 7 computers from this mac. There are no sessions that are active. I have contacted Mac support and they said it was a windows 7 issue given it has no issue on XP or other winows 7 PCs.

Hi, Thanks for update. It would be appreciated if you let me know if there are any error messages when the two PCs lost connection or when you failed to reconnect with Windows 7; you can also capture a screenshot on the error for our further research: How to capture a screenshot ========================= 1) Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click “Desktop” on the left pane and then click "Save". 6) Then Upload to SkyDrive. Meanwhile, according to your description, this issue only occurred on the two windows 7 computers; I suggest you compare the problematic Windows 7 computers with the good Windows 7 computers, such as on configurations, settings, software installed, etc. At this time, please also try the following: 1. You could also boot windows 7 into Safe Mode with networking and check if the issue persists. . 2. Update the network adapter driver on the problematic Windows 7 computers. Hope it helps. Thanks. Hi, I tried your suggestion of safe mode with no luck. There are no error messages on the windows machine. This was taking too much time and in the end I did the good old windows trick of a scratch rebuild. Everything is working as it should now. If it is one thing that seems to be consistent throughout all the versions of Windows is that a reinstall will often be the easiest and quickest way to resolve an issue.

As it turns out the reinstall of windows 7 Ultimate did not fix the issue as it came back. I did eventually find out how to fix the issue. I saw 'error 2017' in event viewer and found this fix. In my windows 7 machine I used regedit to increase the size of a parameter: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters the parameter was Size - and value was set at 1 . I changed the value to 3 . Now i have no issues!!!
