OK... This is a really old chestnut: Remote Desktop Regionsal and Language settings are not right...
Hi,I am having trouble getting mstsc to default to the correct default language when connecting to a Win7 x64 Pro PC.The source and destination computers have been regionalised to "English (Australia). I have actually removed any references to "English (United States)" from both computers during the mini-setup and ensured this is the case for new accounts that log into the PCs locally. So, no rogue returns to "English (United States) here. The problem is, as soon as I RDP between computers (from Win XP all the way to Win2K8 and Win7) the "Regional and Language" options appear with the "English (United States)" as an installed service and the RDP session defaulting to this as the language!!??Now, I know this has been a problem since the days when MS integrated the old Metaframe technology into their OS, so how and why is this still not working properly? In fact, with Windows 7 it appears to have taken a step backwards. Now, while having the RDP session defaulted to the "English (United States)" language service, incorrectly; if you go to "Region and Language" -> "Text Services and Input Languages" it doesn;t even show "English (United States) as an installed service. So why has the very same RDP session defaulted to this language setting!!!!???Does anybody have any suggestions here as to how I can stop RDP from trying to force me use "English (United States)? Thanks,FranklinWebIT

Hello,Make sure that the host computers has been regionalized to "English (Australia). In RDP, click Option->Experince, uncheck all options, then try to connect. What's the result?Thomas77

Hi Thomas_77, Thanks for your reply. However, I'm not entirely sure why you would think unchecking these boxes would make any difference? None of them make any refernce to OS or any other kind of language setting. My post here is for all of the thousands (conservative estimate) of posts that can be found across the Internet over the last 15+ years about the way that RDP and language settings NEVER work properly in Windows TS/RDP/MSTSC and that this has not improved, but in fact got WORSE, with Windows 7. So far, in all my years of revisiting this "old chestnut" I have never manged to see an official response from a Microsoft team member on what Microsoft have to say on this matter. Now, please don't write me off as just a mindless Microsft basher; I do appreciate a lot of the great stuff that comes out of Redmond. However, this is indicative of the disregard that Microsoft appears to have to making their operating systems TRULY multilingual/multinational and properly supporting this. Without millions of users out there having to write log-on scripts or all kinds of other "work arounds" for something that should NEVER be an issue in the first place. Come on Microsoft... step up to the plate and give it your best shot in Windows 7 to fix this, not make it worse.
