As I've done many times before, I built a system and bought an OEM license. (Though I am now thoroughly confused after hours of research whether or not Microsoft still allows OEM licenses on home-built systems. It certainly seems they do not, yet I am sure that there are large numbers of people still buying them for that purpose.) The system was built specifically for a 64-bit OS (e.g., 12GB RAM), but I accidentally purchased a 32-bit Vista Business license (with Win 7 upgrade coupon). I had read that Win 7 upgrades contained both 32- and 64- bit versions, so I didn't really think much about it. Until I opened the package and learned that the upgrade coupon was for 32-bit Win 7 only . Surprise! The retailer I bought this from is out of the loop, as OEM software is not returnable. After spending hours and hours on the phone, it seems that Microsoft can not help either. So did this idiot really just flush $150 down the toilet? I have no desire to install this 32-bit Vista Business license anywhere, yet I cannot sell it, either (obviously). I'm not even sure I can legally give it away to anyone, now that the package has been opened. I will never touch another OEM license, but I really wish there was something I could do to recover my $150. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

If you had purchased your software from a major retailer, such as newegg.com, they would accept it as a return if unopened. As it stands, unless the seller you purchased the software from will accept it as a return, there's really nothing more to discuss.Carey Frisch
