OC GAL status cannot synchronize

Dear all,

Currently we have Lync Server 2010 setup. We got no problem with the server.

But the issue comes on the client side. We used Office Communicator R2 v3.5.6907.253 on Windows 7 PC. The GAL database cannot be downloaded and synchronized for weeks. Even after we set the GAL initial download delay to 0.

There is error message on OC, saying:

"Cannot synchronize with the corporate address book. This may be because the proxy server setting in your web browser does not allow access to the address book"

We do use proxy on IE, but we have by pass the lynx server address.

I believe there is no problem in  synchronization between lync server and AD, because i have tried to install lync client on one of the PC, and the address book can be synchronized perfectly within hour.

Anyone has suggestion what may be the cause and solution for this? We would like to stick with OC as client, no intention to replace it with lync.

Hi,

the addressbook will be download via webservices from the OCS server. The files a stored on in the shared folders of your OSC enviroment.

First check if you can access the addressbok link. You can also look into the IIS log and search for the client access.

Hi Holger,

Thanks a lot. Finally i can download the address book by upgrade the OC to version v3.5.6907.266, and set the IE advanced option to not revoke the server certificate.

But the thing is, the downloaded address book is not up to date, i have delete the GAL to force it to download the new one, but the user title is not up to date. The user title at outlook is up to date. The user title at lync client is up to date as well.

I confuse, if the address book at lync client is up to date, it should be up to date at server too.

Do you think that lync client and OC get the address book from different resource?

Hi Holger,

My correction, finally the address book  is up to date, i just need to be a bit passion i guess. Plus, actually i dont need to update to version .266, by unchecking the "check for server's certificate revocation" itself has solves the issue.

Hi,

I am glad to hear the issue has been resolved.

Just for your reference, here is great blog that explains how the Lync address book update:

1. Changes performed are automatically synchronized by the LS User Replicator once every 60 seconds.

2. Once every 24 hours (1:30AM local server time) the LS Address Book Server will execute a synchronization.

3. On a randomized schedule the Lync client download the updated files for address book from Lync Server.
