OCS 2007 and Windows Server 2012 AD schema

Hello,

We have following situation:

  1. Parent/child AD infrastructure and all domain controllers are Windows Server 2003.
  2. In the child domain there is a OCS 2007 infrastructure installed.

We want to upgrade Root domain to Windows Server 2012 R2 Active Directory. The question: is it supported and will it work?

This article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb963981(v=office.12).aspx doesn't say anything about Windows Server 2012 R2.

If supported, after Win2012 schema extensions will it be necessary to perform OCS schema extensions again http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958980/EN-US?

Thanks,

Pteris

Hi peteris,

First, Ocs 2007 is old version from R2 which isn't support A.D 2012R2.

Second, No, this link to ensure you that OCS has many problem with A.D 2008 R2 which mean it won't support and work with 2012R2 because after OCS 2007, Microsoft download many version and now Microsoft have LYNC 2013 which supported with 2012 and 2012 R2.

I'm sure you will not find any Information about OCS 2007 and Windows 2012 R2 interoperation.

Only way to find out, is to install a Windows 2012 R2 Test Domain and a 2003 Memberserver with OCS 2007 to test this before ore to migrate to the newest Lync Ve

So I got response from Microsoft that OCS 2007 or OCS 2007 R2 are not supported with Windows Server 2012.

It may work, but it is not supported because it is not tested.

Hi,

If you install a  windows 2012 R2 you will not install OCS 2007 R2 bacause 2012 schema is not compliant. If you run the install wizard, you will see that schema update is ok. But when you try to install OSC you will a schema error.

Hi,

Install a windows 2003 R2 Active Directory LAB and install OCS 2007 R2 in it. And then try to upgrade the schema to windows 2012 R2. You don't need to install a 2012 R2 Domain Controller. Run adprep /forestprep from a member server with 2012 R2 system. And after that try to test if OCS 2007 R2 is still operating.

I can say that OCS wil not operate correctly, but test it yourself.

Finally, I recommand that you first upgrade OCS to Lync 2013 and after upgrade your AD to 2012 R2. This is the best way to keep your AD healthy.

Also check if 2012 schema is compliante with all services integrated in AD.

I hope your schema is a standartd MS,and has not been updated by any external application.

Please not that microsoft doest support OCS 2007 R2 in a 2012 R2 Domain. And also there was an issue with 2008 R2 schema.

Hello,

I just did testing with Server 2012 R2 domain controller deployment in 2008 R2 forest and everything seems to be working for me.

I have removed 2008 R2 domain controller from my domain and now AD in running on 2012 forest functional mode and OCS 2007 R2 is running fine.

Regards,

Hariom
