Ntbackup extremely slow.
I ran an ASR bakup yesterday; it took over six hours compared to the usual three. One problem was that while it was backing up iTunes *.mp4 files (of public radio presentations) "something" was reading and writing to the external (backup destination) hard disk about 308 times per second, i.e., doing 616 transfers per second, as shown by the Performance Monitor. Ntbackup was making almost no progress for several hours. I have never seen this before. What is even more mystifying is that in Task Manger, no process was admitting to performing these tranfers. In other words, no process displayed in Task Manager was doing 616 transfers per second. I don't know if it is related, but after formating a floppy disk and allowing Ntbackup to write the ASR information to it, it would not read. The floppy drive would read other disks, but not the ASR disk. Six hours completely wasted. One factor is that I had to replace the CPU on this system several months ago. WinXP objected when I started it, and wanted me to perform a repair install, which would have meant re-installing all my applications. I was so happy to have a working system again, that I did not do it. Lsass.exe is unhappy and reading and writing something to an empty file on the system disk 4 times per second. The system will not let me install any new applications. Could this be the cause of my backup problems? This backup is the first one I have tried to do since I installed the new CPU. Does anyone know what the problem could be? 1 person needs an answerI do too
