Novell client needed to connect to Novell share
I know very little about Novell. Where I work we have several shares on Novell servers that we connect to from our workstations. We just recevieved new Windows 7 workstations that do not have the Novell client installed on them. Apparently,
I need the Novell client to connect to the shares, but our app team has yet to certify it for Windows 7.
Why is the Novell client required to connect to these shares on Novell servers? Is there a workaround?

Info found @ http://www.novell.com/products/clients/
The Novell Client workstation software extends the capabilities of Linux and Windows desktops by providing access to NetWare and Open Enterprise Server (OES). Once installed on workstations, Novell Clients enable users to enjoy the full range of Novell services
such as authentication via Novell eDirectory, network browsing and service resolution, and secure and reliable file system access—all delivered through industry-standard protocols. The Client supports Novell's traditional NCP protocol.

The NetWare Core Protocol (NCP) is a network protocol used in some products from
Novell, Inc. It is usually associated with the
NetWare operating system, but parts of it have been implemented on other platforms such as
Linux,
Windows NT and various flavors of
Unix.
It is used to access
file,
print,
directory,
clock synchronization, messaging, remote command execution and other network service functions.
TCP/IP and
IPX/SPX (obsoleted,
technical support is provided only for
NetWare platform) are the supported underlying protocols.
TCP/IP implementations use
TCP/UDP port 524 and rely on
SLP for name resolution.
Novell eDirectory uses NCP for synchronizing data changes between the servers in a
directory service tree.
